The world is my kickstand. That said, there isn't always a tree where you need it, but I simply can't bring myself to put one on any if my bikes.

My wife also thinks it makes no sense, but she also doesn't think a person needs more than one bike.

I've seen many bikes damaged by them but think they deserve practical use on townie types. Our Raleigh Twenty has a welded tube on the bb shell for the sidestand. If kids are on that bike, have to warn them not to sit on it while the stand is down. The welded tube and detent could get damaged from excess force.

I want another 2 leg Pletscher like this one for my Carlton 3 speed, but I can't find one with the same top late. The bolt is a countersunk socket head.

To prevent crushing, I shoved corks a couple of inches into the round Reynolds stays and then packed in a product similar to J B Weld.

I don't have kickstands on my bikes except for the tandem. I don't crave one, but I have no problem with kickstands on other people's bikes.

Pletscher the Zoom is adjustable in Length the foot piece Bolts to the upper with a series of little holes.

My Koga Trekking Bike has a 2nd kickstand on the bottom of the Left Low rider rack , so the pannier load is supported . and the front wheel wont roll

If you're going to attach a kickstand to the frame (and yes, I also have a few bikes with them on), wrap the part of the frame where the kickstand will touch with handlebar tape... just one layer. You can still tighten the stand to the frame, but you won't do any damage to the paint or the frame this way.:thumb:

Handlebar tape might prevent scratches to the paint, and it might not. It will not prevent denting the frame.

I love the kickstand on my '72 Super Sport, but with the switch from 630-32 to 622-28 wheels and tires, it's a little too long. Any non-destructive suggestions? The mount is brazed on, the kickstand itself is chrome steel of probably 1/2" dia.

Raleigh Sports kickstands are designed to fit their frames. They stay in place without torquing the bolt too hard and have great return springs.

"A bike that's on the ground can't fall over." has always been my thought in these types of situations. Of course, this does not apply to the current situation nor ridding with a loaded bike. Nothing against kickstands. I'd put the right one one the right bike.

The first and only bike so far from which I haven't removed the kickstand is my Gazelle Champion Mondial semi-race. Standard issue and mounted by Gazelle's race department mechanics on a brazed-on mounting plate.

Rivendell has the plastic stay protectors for the Pletscher kickstands. They only protect the top. They also recommend a handlebar tape wrap.

I'm surprised no photos of a Chicago made, electroforged boat anchor with a 5lb kickstand. :D

That's hard on the paint. I lean mine against the rear tire and use a Flickstand or rubber band to stabilize the front.

Most are over tightened. Maybe the kickstand loosens itself until the chain stays are as compressed as the kickstand wants them to be.

I have kickstands on half my bikes, and my wife's bikes. The one on my Miyata Racer has been there 43 years. None of these bikes has suffered any damage. It's all about the installation and care - afterall, if you are careless you could destroy your bike by how you adjust the RD, it's as simple as that., 404, user error. The Edge/Pletcher doubles are very torquey and tend to snap open and closed. You have to be careful they are firmly seated and opened and closed slowly, carefully. I would not install a kickstand on a teen's bike.

Give your wife a kickstand, and a bell.

How do you like the Copenhagen?

It's great. Easily adjustable. I thought it looked bad before the bike was built up. It looks nice to my eye now.
I have the Pletscher 'twin-legger' on a couple other bike and like as well. The Pletscher does have to be trimmed, the Copenhagen has adjustable legs.
I'd buy the Copenhagen over the Pletscher, both are good choices.
