What's up with this bike?

so this bike has come up a number of times in the past year on my local craigslist, and I'm guessing the reason it hasn't sold yet is due to what's going on in the description: a paramount frame dressed up as a raleigh with 600 Ultegra Tri-color components? What say you experts of C&V, what is up with this bike? Any way of knowing what it really is? Guesses? Conspiracy theories? Bicycle: Road/Racing

Frame story is meaningless. Regardless of how it was acquired, it's a Raleigh frame.

It's got some nice parts on it. Buy it for the parts if you want them, $250 would be a good deal if everything works.

The funny thing is my 93 Waterford Paramount looks strikingly similar. Has the exact same seat cluster and the attachment of the stays to the dropouts are nicely done and not a normal shove in dropout and fill with brass. funny thing also is it also came with an aluminum kinesis fork and full Shimano tricolor 600. See what size the seatpost and if it's a 27.4 I'm buying a lottery ticket because that's a normal indication of reynolds 753. Is there a serial number anywhere?

I did not ask about the dropouts. I just sent him an email asking for some serial number information and seatpost size. Regardless of what the frame actually is, it looks like a nice ride--I'm just a sucker for a mystery.

I think it's still a Raleigh but a higher end model. Just happens to have some strange characteristics as my Paramount from right around the same time period. That fastback seat cluster is the exact same though and not something normal. My Paramount has Shimano dropouts but the cable guides for the rear brake are integrated with the lugs. This has just normal braze cable stops.

I would just start checking out mid to early 90s Raleigh Catalogs. Here's something to chew on but it's not the same model but same color it appears and seat stay attachment.

Raleigh SP 1000 - Titanium, Rare Team Frame on velospace, the place for bikes

Maybe he just means this replaced a Paramount he had and happens to be of similar quality. Maybe bike was damaged/stolen and this replaced the Paramount because it was worth about the same? I don't think it's a repainted Paramount frame though.

The saddle, mostly.

This is what I thought. But the way he wrote it was confusing. Discussing the Paramount adds nothing to the ad.
