Tommasini Comp.
Just picked this up this evening. Don't know what year it's yet as I haven't really looked at it and don't know much about the marque. I know it's columbus SL, Campy Athena and it's red.

Great find.
One of my favorites. Clean it up and enjoy. Strong handlers. |
I really have to stop, I am moving back to England in the next few months and can only take so many bikes. Giving this one one quick wipe down I'm loving the build quality. I'll take it for a run tomorrow and see if it will usurp one of the others.

Does anyone have any info on this bike? Is it a Comp or is comp just a shortened version of competizione? Any idea of age? My searches are coming up empty of reference info and hoped someone here may have an encyclopedic knowledge of Tommasini.

Very nice bike. Tread slowly and don't mess up whatever chrome is intact. I can't tell if it is gunk or rust. If you are really lucky, the whole bike is covered in gunk. Use WD40 and a cloth to clean it.
I'd guess it was around 1992-94. Tommasini's are fantastic bikes, even the mid range bikes ride amazingly. A Tommasini is like take a combo of Cinelli, Ciocc and Guerciotti, extracting the essence and making a bike that takes the raciest characteristics of those bikes and makes them work together. Enjoy. |

I am really looking forward to trying this bike, and will follow up with pics and thoughts |
Well after a deep clean, lube and general readiness preparations, I took it out today. Not far enough to get a feel for it as I only rode it 1/2 a mile or so. The disintegrating hoods didn't help but I have new ones on their way. A few things left to do including but not limited to, new cables and housings, the new hoods, bar wrap, and saddle.

Don't scrimp on tires.
I would put Veloflex Masters on it if it were mine. |

I would put Veloflex Masters on it if it were mine. I have some nice blackwalls but wanted to see how I liked it with the skins before I bought tires for it, I'm watching the budget on this because my wife is watching the budget on this. Over the last 2 weeks I have bought *deep breath* 2 Schwinn World Sports, a Centurion LeMans, a Centurion Ironman, a Fuji Grand Tourer, a Fuji Dynamic and the Tommasini, also had my Pinarello come into the collection although by way of trade but still another bike she noticed coming in. This along with the recent slew of incoming parts the parts for this one are being watched. I have several bikes on CL right now, once one sells the money from that will be turned into tires with the sale and our bike sale dinner out, fresh in the mind. All that said I think I actually will prefer the blackwalls on this one. |
