early 80's Specialized Alice SE garage sale score! :-)

I scored this at a community garage sale this past weekend. The seller had a lot of gas pipes in his driveway, but he had the Alice tucked away hanging from the ceiling. Upon further inspection I learned that it was not the 3Rensho build, but the very nice one nonetheless from the movie American Flyers! He didn't want to part with it, but I convinced him to sell it to me. :-) It has Superbe levers, shifters, front/back derailleurs, calipers, a very pretty Specialized crank/arms, Specialized bars and stem, Laprade fluted post, and it came with a leather selle Italia saddle. The saddle on there is one of my favorites that I put on for the pics. Of course the wheels are not original, specially that back one with the bolts. Aside from the wheels and tape, it appears to be all original. As always, your thoughts, opinions, comments, etc, are always welcomed and appreciated.

I put it to be from 85-86. I would like to change that bar tape. Does anybody know what kind was the original? Any idea on the wheels as well? Thank you very much!

Serial number is M359924

The guy who lived across the street from me back in the late 80's had one of these. Got me back into cycling.

Why are you referring to it as "Alice"? Am I missing an inside joke or something? Autospell perhaps? Looks like it says Allez to me.

I have always thought the early Allez's were one of Specialized's best looking bikes.

Check the dérailleurs for date codes. You should see a two letter code (year/month). Google Suntour date codes and you'll find an answer. If the month is toward the end of the year, it is probably the next model year. I can't remember if the Specialized cranks are made by Sugino or Sakae.

Looks identical to my wife's '85. There was another thread about a similar Allez (don't let autocorrect try to convince you it's Alice ) just recently. Go back a page or two to find it.

Nice score! My wife's came with white Benotto tape. Google it, it can still be found and it's awesome looking. Second best, maybe some Fizik microtex tape.
