Here is the way I set up the cantis on my wife's mixte, and it worked pretty well.

Maybe I'm dense, but I don't understand what's going on in those photos.

You're not alone.

Tony, What are you trying to achieve?

Maybe he doesn't have a 4th hand cable puller and is using the clamps to set pad clearance & straddle cable carrier height? That's my thought.

Correct...no 4th hand cable puller.

Lost, you are not dense, my original post had busy pics and no explanation.

The bike is torn totally down, and while waiting for parts I am re-assembling what I can.
The clamp tensions the straddle cable, and allows me to align the pads to the rim as well as obtaining a proper arm angle. Final fine-tuning will take place after the levers and cables are installed.

@67tony - I thought I recognized your creativity because I have done it before! When you're done would you consider posting some photos of the mixte? I'm sort of a mixte fan.

Ah, got it.

FWIW I just got a 4th hand tool on Ebay, it's secondhand but it works. I used it for the first time yesterday and it made setting up centerpulls--which I previously dreaded--a thousand times easier.
