worth looking at? shipping is pretty cheap, and I keep thinking I need a good road bike. my old miyata mtn bike rides awsome and it seems most comments are positive towards miyata in general. kinda thinking outload and looking for a little advice. kinda.

I'd buy it for the Suntour Superbe components
alone. The Miyata frame is a good, undervalued if anything.

kinda what I was thinking too. but since its advertised as my size,Part of me wants a rider. I have an older miyata catalog that places the pro #2 behind the team model. the superbe parts alone place it at a decent level though..

I think if it doesnt get to high I will bid on it. last one I got was 15.50 plus the shipping, definatly undervalued.

Seller says "about" 21 inch frame.
looks bigger than a 53cm frame to me.
I was thinking maybe a 55 or 56cm frame.

If I wasn't waiting on my "holy Grail" you'd
have competition.

I was afraid of posting for just that reason. hopefully its off limits...but I doubt it! ;) oh well!
I was thinking 21 was a 54 anyway,so if its a 55, even better. my catalog lists 50,54,57,60,so if its a 57 it might be a little big

'however it may require new tubes'

I hope the seller doesn't mean frame tubes! :D

This bike looks great if only because it has the same color scheme as the Koga Miyata team bikes of the late 70s/early 80s. Remember Daniel Willems, Caprisonne, IJsboerke, etc.?

Most folks here on BF are pretty well mannered, I've yet to see someone
jump someone else's ebay find (if they state they're bidding on it).
does it happen? I'm sure. but like I said all in all a
good bunch here.

no,but apparently be this reaction and the one in catch of the day, this might have a real pedigree and be worth getting! wo-ho a real race bike, way better then the old chicago schwinns I've been finding!

Ludo Peeters, IJsboerke - Koga Miyata, Tour de France 1980. Dura Ace components.

the pulled the auction due to an error. I think the error was they didnt start with a high enough price and the owner balked. it was listed through a listing service, and I think there shipping rates were wrong as well. I'll keep looking

TheOtherGuy 04-22-05 11:28 AM

Or likely someone made a good offer off eBay... (wasn't me...)

lotek 04-22-05 01:16 PM

Maybe they read the interest here?
I didn't bid or make an offer although I liked it.
Other, did you get the Doc's Miyata?

Not yet... It's not a high priority, and he's about 45 minutes from me.
Now, if it were a vintage Masi, Cinelli, Herse... I would have been back the same night!
I was waiting in hopes of him dragging more old "racing bike" stuff home anyway.
Maybe next week..

lotek 04-22-05 05:56 PM

sounds like a guy my dutch connection found.
has a shed full of old bikes just crammed in there.
I'm hoping a Jabo or Joco frame shows up in the pile.

I have a Miata Pro in excellant condition that has Shimano 600 on the shifters and DuraAce on the derailers. Can anyone tell me what this means?
I am going to sell the bike and would like to get an idea of how much it is worth.

The previous owner either swapped out parts or built it up from a bare frame. Given this, it is highly likely that many of the other components are non-original. Unfortunately, this erodes the value. The price you get will depend on the condition, size, year, originality and market conditions.

TheOtherGuy 04-25-05 05:07 PM

This was just recently posted on the CR list:

"if it is a "Pro Miyata" as the one I bought new about 1980/1.Then it would be 600 AX with Dura Ace EX front and rear derailleurs. Also oddly enough 600 "arabic" dt shifters. The hubs are I guess normal 600 small flange with araya rims. The brakes are DC RGC sidepulls.
The "Team Miyata" from this period is all Dura Ace with a mix of AX and EX.
I hope this helps.I'll email some pics if you like.
Warm Regards,Harris Spracher
Waynesboro Va."

Just thought I'd share that.

I believe the factory Pro was all Shimano 600. You could also buy just a frame set and that may be what you have. I had a 56cm Pro frame which I built up with a mix of Dura Ace and 600 stuff along with TTT bars. I think the factory Pro sold for $800ish new in the early 80s. I paid about $350 for the frame in 1982.

Guys; Miyata catalog from about '84 here:

http://www-hsc.usc.edu/~rpinder/biking.html

And don't ask him about the Windsor; I'm getting a swap together with him... ;)
