Looks like an old late-60s/early-70s Schwinn Krate springer fork to me.
Yep, I had an Apple Krate back in the day, my first bike :) DD |
Maybe, the Schwinn springer fork came in at least two lengths.
One was basically for a 20" wheeled Stingray. The other was borrowed from the "cruiser" paper boy sized bikes and would accept 26" Schwinn wheels… It was used on the Krates too. I think the difference on the Krate fork was a provision for a hub brake plate rotation limit bolt pin, that bolted through the LH blade or strut as I recall. Could not afford a Krate, so I bought a "mini wheel" and a Varsity fork and made my own… Krate like bike. Others in the neighborhood followed suit. The local Schwinn store overcame their reluctance to sell these parts after my telling them IT Will work, they had all sorts of excuses (maybe hoping to sell a complete Krate?, or worried I would return the parts?, perhaps because I was 9 years old?) |
Old or repro, those things are widely available on eBay.

That looks like one of the bad Chinese copies, IE: lowrider website quality. The steerer tubes often have to be trimmed, and one I bought was able to be cut in about 8 strokes. Like thick tin foil. It also caused the bike to try to turn right constantly. Unless that is one of the later model Schwinn or Electra springers, it is likely junk. How thick is the pivot bolt on the crown area, and does it have bushings between the bolt and fork legs. That's usually a dead giveaway.,,,,BD

It looks a lot like one of these, which is what you don't want.
26" Straight Springer Fork With Raw Metal Legs |
yeah it does look alot like that one.......the steer tube has been welded and yes there are no bushings......guess I might either toss it in my bone yard behind my garage or just hang it on the wall of my man cave

Do people actually ride these things? I could see cruising a lowrider drive in but that is about it.
