Great pics. I'm going to have to do this ride on my own someday. I don't know how I feel about being told I can't use SPD pedals or that my aero brake levers from 1985 aren't acceptable. Looks like an awesome event, just wish they'd make these things a tad less "re-enactment" but I love 99% of what these rides are about.

Great pics, looks like a good time and something I'd love to do someday!
I mean, wool jerseys, cycling caps, hairnet "helmets", musset bags, steel water bottles, Fiats and Alfa's, and oh yeah, some beautiful bikes! What's not to like?

Historic is what it's about.

I'm not really sure how you meant that to sound, is it a good quaint thing or bad?
As @repechage said, it's historic, and from the pics, it looks very much like a ride did back in the 60's, 70's and maybe early 80's. I love the idea myself...

SPD's are solidly modern equipment, where the whole point of l'Eroica and similar rides is to use antique equipment to get into the spirit of bike races from the 1970's and earlier, warts and all. As said, there are plenty of other rides without these rules -- you wouldn't show up at a tweed ride on your TT bike and in a skinsuit with teardrop helmet, either.

incazzare.
That looks like fun. I should do it some time. The 123 mile route would be too much for me, but the 65 miler would be good.

I went and loved the whole event. Saw bikes I had only see pictures of before. I hope to attend next year. Paso Robles was a great town and the rest stops at wineries was so cool.

Unless something goes desperately wrong, the wife and I will get out for this next year. Looks epic!

Looks like a lot of fun. It would be fun to go just to check out the bikes. Now if I only had a pair of shoes to go with toe clips and straps, .

Indeed the photography is excellent. Hence I thought it was worthy of a post here ;-)
