Mercier knowledge please
A friend just found this... Simplex gears and high flange hubs, drilled chainring. Fantastic condition, mafac racer brakes and levers, 531 frame. Any clues? I'll try and get more pics...

Just my guess, mid '70's. I have a '70-'71 Mercier 300 with the same components, 531 frame but yours has cutouts in the lugs and a different fork crown.

I concur w/ satbuilder's asessment -- probable PX-10 class Mercier 300. My coach and riding partner in the 1972 Los Angeles Wheelmen Double Century had one of those -- very nice bike!

Thank you for the info chaps, a frustrating lack of catalogues online!
He found it in my favourite hunting ground, Leboncoin. I now have to go visit with a camera, these are his pics. Even I want to see more detail! |
Lots of information on the different model types in this thread:
http://www.bikeforums.net/classic-vi...e-mercier.html Lovely bicycle, anyway. Looks like it doesn't need anything other than a wax and polish. Mercier 300 would be my guess, the only difference I can see from the standard model is the lack of chrome socks, but maybe that depended on the year. I hope you're not planning to change to much on this one, looks perfect as is. |
