No more Steve McQueen/Bullitt moments* for Geraldine and me...

*and I understand it wasn't McQueen's character shown buckling up.

You rode it in a criterium in San Francisco?

USAZorro 07-01-15 12:49 PM

At least the pedal matches the color scheme. :D

DAMMIT. I saw this at work, where security concerns don't allow us to see pictures hosted at various places, so I could only imagine the impressively trashed frame after some gnarly and against-manufacturer-recommendation high-speed air and carnage and abuse. First thing I do when I get home is get over here to see the horror.
:notamused:
Words cannot convey my disappointment.

Hahaha I'm glad Geraldine's okay. In my world she's been hanging out with Schroedinger's Cat for the last several hours. ;)

I've always had mixed emotions about Schroedinger having a cat. I'm more of a dog person, but I wouldn't want that bizarre uncertainty potentially endangering a dog. Here's where I would have made a snippy comment about Philosophers 5 years ago, but I owe it to Jgedwa to show appropriate respect. :D

I also can't say anything to Ed either. Here's mine... (in my defense, the paint was trashed before I bought it)

I heard he preferred dogs; that's why he 'used' the cat in the experiment...

Well, I see they are clip-less pedals, but they aren't clipless pedals.

I do miss that 'Bullitt' moment of reaching down and snugging in before cranking up...

@cudak888 needs to check out this thread. Kurt has probably already seen the video, but that certainly looks like the Mach 1 he snagged a few years ago.

@Ed. it's hard to beat the simplicity of riding clipless. I have no regrets about equipping all my bikes with the Shimano MTB version of SPDs. The metal pedals and the metal cleats seem to last forever and ever. The recessed nature of the cleats works really well for walking around before, during, and after the ride.

Over the winter, I was gifted with a pair of Mavic shoes (won't accept the SPD cleat). So I bought a pair of Mavic pedals (which seem to weigh nothing) and installed them on my '93 R600 Cannondale (lowest weight bike in my collection). It feels as if the bike lost at least a pound. But, and I'm guessing, the plastic cleats and the plastic fixture on the pedals won't last more than a few thousand miles. Plus, talk about a pain to walk in!

gmta

If you do an advanced search on Crayola with my user name, you will find the posts back from when I was first building it up. (I've since, de-fixed it, and done the retro thing with it with 9-speed brifters) I really need to get more riding in on all my bikes, but this one especially. It is a rocketship.

Can't imagine not riding modern pedals. Simple, easy, low maintenance & light weight!

Love the sound of those old V8's!
