What tires would you recommend for a 1997 Mongoose Tetra SX

Hello All,

On the way home this afternoon I had the front tire blow out. I can't complain as they are the original tires to the bike.
So I'm wondering what you folks would recommend as replacements. I used the bike as a daily commuter so it doesn't see much trail riding at all. Its used mainly on paved roads and paths. If I do trails they're normally chip style.

The wheels are Weinmann Zac 19, 32-hole. I was considering tires by Panaracer.

I look forward to what you good folks have to say.

I like the Nashbar Streetwise slick 26x1.25, super low rolling resistance and dirt cheap at less than $15 a piece. I rode them for about 3 years and never had a flat, only swapped them because I wanted a fatter tire for dirt trails.

I'm a big fan of Schwalbe Marathons, but quite a few people are not. I have 26x1.75 Marathons on my MTB for commuting...chubby enough to smooth out the road, but high-pressure enough to roll well and to carry my fat arse.

I'm running Panaracer Paselas on my two ATBs.

I've got 1.75 on one and 1.5 on the other.

I *think* I prefer the 1.5" tires. I'm riding mostly streets, paved and hard packed trails. Not so much mud and loose dirt.

I might have gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for these blasted kids and their dog.

Are you in a hurry to get places while commuting?

If not too much, I'd probably go with fat semi-slicks. Schwalbe Fat Albert perhaps. Trying to think if Creme tires would look good on the Tetra, seems like they would, so I might go Conti Retro Ride, since a shop near here has those on sale for $15.

Thanks for the replies. I went with Panaracer Tour 26 x 1.5. The ride is much smoother now and it seems a bit faster
