Index Shifters for 1991 ST600 Cannondale (Suntour x- 7sp hub)

The wife has a nice ride that we are starting to put to use together and she is growing weary of friction shifting. The bike is a 1991 Cannondale st600

The bike is stock except the shifters have been swapped for Suntour vista stem shifters. Anyone recommend a good set of indexed shifters that would fit the bike/hub? Just picked up a nice 89 Ironman Expert with a Suntour GPX group and indexed shifters and she's jealous

Thanks!

OMG, did they really put grip shifters on the ends of the drop bars in 1991? I can see why someone changed it over, but stem shifters? I guess a half step in the right direction is still a half step

If you want index shifting with that suntour setup, you'll need suntour shifters. I have a set of accushift downtube shifters that will work, and rivendell bar-end pods if you're so inclined. Reply in thread and I'll send you a PM with my email address.

Yep, Accushift is the way to go. Plenty on Ebay, if the above offer falls through. I have a pair I could probably part with as well.

IIRC Gripshift was original developed for road bikes.

I think the first step is to find out if your wife wants to reach down to shift or does she like the location of the stem shifters. My wife used downtube shifters for years, but when I upgraded to brifters she has never looked back. You don't have that option, but you can install Accushift stem shifters if that is preferred...
