I've been looking for something my size and this gem turned up. Pretty clean and original. A little rust around bottom lug on head tube,(I'll find a thread to get into that). This thing is a ROCKET!!!

Cleveland Ohio. Scooper....I've read so many of your posts about these old schwinns. I reasearched tenax tubing so much last couple weeks. Frame is big, I'm 6'1 so it feels great. Hoping to install some wider tires soon.

Too funny. I have a 63 cm 1985 Tempo myself. Oddly enough, I'm in Cleveland too. You'll find out these are great riding bikes. Enjoy!

My 1987 Tempo is pretty much the same as yours but for paint and 105 shifty bits. It's the first really good bike I ever rode. It raised my standards quite a bit, as far as bikes go.

Way to go, great looking Schwinn ! Looks like the original San Marco. Those are nice riding bikes. I have several including an 89 Tempo, the green,red and white paint scheme.

The Tenax Schwinns are the single greatest underrated values in the vintage bike biz. They're on par with any of the volume-production Italian and Japanese frames of the era but they tended to be component underspecced for their pricepoints and have boring paint.

Good score. I've a Tenax Prelude and SP Peloton in the build queue, myself.

The saddle is an old Nashbar knockoff that has since been discontinued. When I got the bike it had an enormous comfort gel saddle that got tossed immediately. I was just looking for something that looked period correct.

I have had this identical frame in a 58 sitting bare for a while now, not knowing if I wanted to build it and ride it or just move it to a good home. Just yesterday I actually offered it in a trade locally for basically nothing. Reading the praise here, I am now thinking maybe I should be happy the buyer/trader turned it down!

I love my '88 just dont really care for the paint scheme. Blue with white top tube, paints still in very good condition tho. I've tossed around the idea of getting it PC. But I tend to procrastinate alot.

This is my first "nice" road bike. Responsive for sure. Build yours up and give it a try.

Great find [MENTION=416226]Kdogbikes[/MENTION]! A fine looking bike for sure. I've always loved the color of the '85 Tempo (and also the pearl white of the Super Sport of the same year). I'm another 1987 Tempo owner and agree with others; these are great riders.

Very nice! I have an 89 Prelude myself. I love the way it rides. It was mostly original except for the stem, bars and brake levers, but it was $20. Wheels were all out of true needed new cables and housing. I had a quill stem and Nitto bars laying around that I used and an older pair of drilled dia comp brake levers from the 70s. Ordered some Cane Creek hoods for them and it works quite well! The brakes themselves are also not the original brakes, as when I was building it back up with my friend we were having brake issues. He had a set of Shimano brakes (can't remember if Sora or Tiagra) with Ultegra pads. Later we realized that we just needed to lubricate the pivots on the levers a bit where they met the hoods. At that point we didn't feel like taking the brakes back off to put the originals on. They are still in my garage.

The only thing I want to do is get better bar tape, as what I put on was free junk..
I went with a blue scheme because I already had the bottle cages sitting around in the garage.

Nice prelude. I like the blue cables. Sharp. I've learned so much about this era of schwinns last couple weeks.

Very clean Tempo - this era (85-89) are my absolute favorites. I just sold my 87 Prelude and used the cash to purchase a mint 87 Tempo, which is being shipped from CO. Should be here early next week!

Rest of the frame is in the shed separated by thunder and heavy rain. Man that blue on the 85 takes my breath away !

Headset is 105 but will be changed out to 600 to match the new group.

That is a nice looking frame and a nice start to a build. I was at the lbs looking into wider tires. The back roads in my area are a lot more bumpier now that I'm on 110 psi tires. Lol.
