Rode the Smurfmobile today, with the white Turbo installed. Now it just needs white cables, and some newer tires that aren't 15 years old. They still ride fine though, despite their age.,,,,BD

Thank you Doc, it was a pleasure working with you. As everyone already knows, the attention to detail is superb, the colors are spot on, and the crispness to the shift levers is something I have never experienced. I can't wait to get her on the road for the initial ride!!

Just brought home a new one today! My 86 ST400 is pretty beat up and a little small for me. Saw this one on craigslist advertised to have 250miles total, and when I showed up, they were right! A couple chips, but easily fixed up. Some non-catalog parts on as well, but all upgrades as far as I'm considered, plus it came with the rack and trunk bag.

Just teasing. I bought my 25" ST600 from a guy who used it as his club racer / paceline rider. He said it was the only bike he'd ridden that was both long and stiff enough for his big, tall, (and BITD, strong) body.

I posted another thread about this one after I picked it up ---- It had the appearance of being a lot rougher than this , but this is the result of a few bucks at a carwash ----

No plans for it outside of replace the tires, service the bearings , replace cables/bar tape, - then take it for an occasional ride

Thanks! These old Cannondales dont need much, - some brifters would make life easy for me, but im superstitious on spreading the rear end to 130 on aluminum, so for my purposes, id need to stay 7 speed, but its my understanding the early 8 speed brifters work with 7 also

Yes --- I have a pair of these --- only problem is they were off a bike that looked like it spent part of its life on the ocean floor --- LOL

They are stuck hard- the typical WD-40 bath wont get them to budge ----- I meant to look up the guy that rebuilds them and send them off, but to date, I have been too lax to do so

Your '92 reminds me of mine -- a '92 Criterium model (hence the C600 designation)

I had it in a repair stand, I don't run the seat that high --

-- I forgot where I put it though -- between my attic, my parent's barn, and a rented storage unit , I lose track of these darn things (more proof that I need to get these things out and ride them more)

I've viewed this thread at least 4 times. Love the pics.
I currently have an 88 Criterium stripped and ready for powder coat. For the life of me I cant settle on a color. I have a set of Fulcrum S4 wheels waiting as well.
I kind of wanted to do a modern spin with the new wheels and a thicker stem, and give a nod to the racing heritage.
Dr. has pushed the boundaries on a few bikes -- orange and beer suds beige --- but haven't found a whole lot of pics that got too creative via google images.
Part of me wants to do something crazy like lime or yellow or maybe flat orange, but wondering if the frame can pull it off as well as the modern frames.

I know I want to put on the Cannondale graphics on the down tube and have someone make a C R I T E R I U M graphic for the top tube ala some of the Techniums and Paramounts.
I tossed around a dark graphite color with orange graphics, seat, wires, and tape.
Any other bright ideas out there ? I've got many hours in searching for that one piece of inspiration, and need some new thoughts.

IMO, sdn40, the large diameter tubing plays to your modern graphics idea, which I think could look pretty sweet. Since Cannondale kept the large tube and traditional geometry (read: horizontal top tube) for quite some time, and still mostly does it today (at least one model will keep it close), you have many years of graphic schemes to take inspiration from. Vintage Cannondale has reproduction decals and since you aren't picky about year-specific decals (fonts, mostly, in Cannondale's case), then take a look at these. Multiple color options to choose from as well. I would work with those (types of) choices and let the paint color play off of it. That or nail down some graphic ideas and a place that would be willing to make them, and then go for the color.

What components do you have in mind for the bike? With the Fulcrum wheels it looks like you'll be going with a modern drivetrain (8-11 speeds), so employing some bolder colors could really work. Don't know if you have a favorite color, a color you've not had on a bike, or whatever.

I like your modern stem idea. I did it to my bike (pictured below) and it brought it many years ahead in looks, to me anyway. The recipe was 1) quill stem to 1 1/8" stem adapter, mounted low 2) 1 1/8" stem at 100mm length with a 31.8mm clamp diameter 3) modern short (reach) + shallow (drop) handlebar with 31.8mm clamp diameter. The stem looks properly positioned height-wise with regards to the headset, and its thickness is visually matched by the thickness of the frame tubes. The resulting feel of setup was strong, stiff, yet very comfortable. I like the custom color idea, and I like the modern stem idea!

So for everyone else, I have been holding out on you!! Apologies! She is but a frame again, but during the middle of this year, this was her in her best form. Pictures don't do as much justice to her striking proportion. All that to say, this picture was taken a day after a ride with a friend in which we clocked 44 mph on a long descent. The nearly-75° HT angle and resulting bar setup had her being 100% rock solid stable the entire time. And all other times she was like any other favorite bike--predictable, reacting well to input, etc. Cannondale, as we know, knows their stuff, and certainly did it back in 1989.

Does anyone have a guess on what color was chosen for this bike ? I found it in another show us your Cannondale thread. Someone else had copied it in so I can't give proper credit to the bike owner. At first I thought it might be a straight flat chalkboard black, but my mind is messing with me now and I can't decide. Maybe its a bit lighter - more of a dark dark gray ? I really like it but my head hurts trying to figure out the color. I don't think it has any metallic in it which is fine by me cuz I'd rather not have to pay for 2 sets of powder coat. Oh yea - I'm using powder coat. I finally got my orange Cannondale downtube decals along with a custom orange Criterium top tube decal - and orange wires, just a few more details and I'm taking the frame in. My fail safe is gloss black but that's too easy (I hate me sometimes)
