All the STs had a very short top tube and a long (this one came with a 3") stem. The bar angle looks weird because the front wheel is turned to the right 15-20 degrees.

Can any of you Cannondale gurus tell me what I have? The serial number, located on the underside of the chainstay, reads 63071687019. That tells me it's a 63cm built on July, 16 1987. The wheelbase is 39.50" and it is equipped with a Shimano 105 6 spd groupset. Based on those specs the bike is an SR500, but what puzzles me is the color. The 1987 SR500 was offered in turquoise or white, and this bike is neither. Could the color be a carryover from 1986 or possibly early usage of a 1988 blue? Notice how the two pictures appear to be different colors? I bought the bike new some time between Summer '87 and Spring '88 so it's never been repainted. Any thoughts?

My guess is an '88 model made in '87. When do new models come out? It's usually before the first of the year, right?

That blue '88 is a lovely color! If bikes are anything like cars, new year's models come out late the year before, so perhaps a July build portends to that--being ready for the reveal.

Makes me re-think my '85. Color is ??? but in 1986 it was very much Navy in color, and thus an SR400. Like your '88, the blue is very nice. I ended up with a lot of Veloce and some nicer pieces on it. Rocking a triple on an SR frame, lol!

tyler fred, My guess is that the upper and lower sized frames were manufactured in limited runs and awaited orders from bike shops before being built up.

I was hoping someone might have either an '86 or '88 Cannondale in the same color. That would be an indicator as to what color blue was used on this '87.

TylerFred, definitely an '88 model. You can tell by the 'R' registered logo mark on the stick of the "d" in Cannondale. 87's did not have that mark.

They had another blue called Blueberry that was more common on the SR frames in 88, and also often came with the custom yellow sponge painted accents.

So here we have a 1987 "blueberry" Cannondale SR600 on the right and a 1988 "Blue" Cannondale SR1000 on the left. Which of these two colors most resembles my ser# 63071687019 Cannondale?

Neither. Yours is a third shade of blue that did not appear in the catalog. And there was also a fourth that was more of a mix of blue and green. It is possible that those two additional shades were used on replacement or warranty frames and/or bare frames. I know they used a very bright shade of pink for some bare frames that was not available in a complete bike model.

tyler fred, You have to take into accout that a color shade may change from one lot number to the next. My guess is that your bike is closer to the Blueberry color...nice job affixing the two bikes together.

@Craptacular8 EDIT: Thanks!, It is a great bike and generally my bike for riding on the trainer. The fork IS a K EMS carbon but to be honest I have no inkling about its origins. I bought this a few years ago from a previous owner who made the changes but then quit cycling. I didn't really get into it because I that point I did not know much about bikes at all. The original headset was replaced with a threadless Chris King. There are no imperfections on this bike other than a couple of tiny paint chips. The ride is quite smooth and fast but I haven't any idea if this is due to the fork... @top506 Yes the whole drivetrain is original. I took apart and cleaned up the brifters which changed their functionality from OK to great. I also had to replace the tension adjuster screw on the RD which snapped after some time. All is smooth now.

I don't own this anymore, but this is a flip that passed through my garage a couple years back. One of those rare flips that started with a frame and still ended with a profit. Found the frame/fork, headset, stem, bars, and seat post on craigslist, had the wheels and some parts already, scored a tri-color mini group from a forum member, and added a few new items from LBS and ebay. It all came together nicely and I made a young Cal student very happy.

I haven't gotten around to cleaning this one up yet, and may never, but it sure gets ridden. Bought this 1990 ST600 from the original owner a couple Decembers ago for $100 (vintage Brooks Professional included in that deal, thank you very much!) The tiny '81 Miyata 1000 he also had was only $50 so I snapped that one up, too.

Took off the grabby U-brakes he had on there and put some proper Tektro cantis that aren't quite a perfect fit, but have a much more pleasing modulation. Swapped out his mismatched 27" rims for a pair of Alex 700c R500 rims I got from a Lemond frankenbike I scrapped, and by golly, they fit 35mm Paselas under those plastic fenders (sourced from the Miyata 1000). Right place and parts at the right time. The Sylvan Touring pedals and the cassette are the only new components on the bike.

Deore running gear with Shimano 8-speed barcons, 52/40/28 up front with 11-34T out back gives me a slick-shifting range of 22 - 128 gear inches, which I find adequate. Not sure if I'll make any future upgrades, apart from some new black bar tape and bolting on the beefy front rack I picked up from a fellow C&Ver.

As shown, it's how I usually ride it, with some baggage to haul some stuff. I've got the rest of the set if I ever decide to take it touring, which I hope to do for at least a couple days this summer. Fingers crossed.
