Cycling & C&V Bike Shops In Springfield or Branson, MO?

Hello fellow C&V'ers,

I will be visiting Springfield, MO for a job interview a week from Sunday. If it goes well, I may be moving there as well. How is the cycling in Springfield/Branson area and are there any good C&V bike shops? I expect its a little different from the Pacific NW... How about micro breweries?

Thanks for your input.

Chris

I'm in St Louis and I travel the state. Columbia has a vibrant cycling culture. Springfield, not so much. The good news is that the rural gravel roads should be fun to explore.

Thanks! Just put street tires on my Bridgestone, maybe I will have to switch to something I can ride on pavement and gravel.

One of my other good job prospects is in St. Louis, but I have not yet been invited for an on-site interview as yet. They will decide on finalists next week. Chris

I enjoyed Springfield, MO and the interview went well. Any good cycling clubs? Any micro breweries or distilleries?

Thanks - Chris

Chris,

Check in with Terry Whaley, Executive Director of Ozark Greenways in Springfield. He'll be able to provide most of the information you need. Queen City Cycles has provided good service on vintage steel for myself in the recent past.

There are a few C&V enthusiasts peppered here and there throughout Southwest Missouri. I spend a fair amount of time down there myself. But for the record, I hope you like climbing. If you move to Branson, there's not a flat spot in sight. It's all up and down, and pretty steep.

Thanks! I will actually be in working in downtown Springfield if we work out an agreement for the job. As far as hills go, I have been in the Pacific Northwest all my life, so I am familiar with hills for sure. When I flew in, all I could think was how unbelievable flat it appeared to be in Springfield. Though I did not get down to Branson or even out of the city. Chris

Springfield is a pancake. And frankly, kind of boring. Head into the Ozarks and the world changes completely.
