The Huret Success-Duopar for one:
VeloBase.com - Component: Huret Success-Duopar CPSC (earlier version; open front clamping band)

Same with the Huret 700, maybe more time appropriate though it's not as nice.

But, if it were up to me, I'd leave the (Record?) FD you have on there now. It should perform fine with the cable routing the way it is, and you'll quickly forget unusual routing. Any reason to think the Campagnolo RD and shifters are not original? Perhaps it originally came with a Gran Sport FD (which also has a built-in stop)?

I'm pretty excited. I love the bag support, leaf and fenders!

I think I'd also like to have some drillium on this to match that front dérailleur.

Right on :)

How about a better pic of that FD? From the upside-down angle, it almost appears worn through at the cage-closure screw. Oh, never mind - that's the chain! My eyesight sux these days, I swear.

Overall I find this an interesting project. I hope the decals can be saved - those don't look like they're available locally :)

Yet another cool project - have fun.

I tried that, but it's not worth it for me. I discovered that I want it 90% of the time. The remaining 10% is annoying, but not enough to turn it off.

Then I wouldn't recommend it to you. I would to anyone who says it hurts more than it helps.

I have a habit of checking what I have before sending it. I catch most typos that way, though my record is not perfect, of course.

You know, Valentino fd's actually shift pretty okay! Other options are just about every other fd made in this period.

You have already formed an opinion that this came to you with parts other than the way it was originally built. And you may be right about that, I don't know. I'd wait to hear what can be leaned from the Matthews family before making any decision.

Simply cool...and...one of a kind! Boy...Aaron...I think you have all of us drooling!

Drillium Dude 09-04-15 02:29 PM

Btw, is it just me or do those downtube gear levers look a little short and thick? It almost appears as though they're bar-end levers attached to a downtube clamp.

Not the greatest photo...taken indoors.

Pretty sure it's just you, or maybe the little black condoms are throwing you off. Either way, I say this merely to bump the thread. Aaron, heard anything from the UK?

Drillium Dude 09-08-15 01:53 PM

Yeah, I wanna know what's new here, too :)

Did you check the dates on the hub locknuts?

Also, I'd like to see photos of the saddle stamps and metal badge.

Just wanted to look at the two together. the grey one is a Holdsworth.

KonAaron Snake 09-08-15 05:31 PM

I think Rudi is right here - it's likely built by the guy with his name on it prior to his owning the shop.

allend 09-08-15 06:12 PM

Hi there,

If this is a Holdsworthy frame the serial number may help with dating. After the soap and water are numbers clearly readable?

D

KonAaron Snake 09-08-15 06:27 PM

The S/N is 1276.

KonAaron Snake 09-08-15 06:57 PM

Lock-nuts are 1970 code.

Chrome Molly 09-08-15 07:34 PM

Missed this earlier, but I'd say you're having fun with it. Lots of character.

Velognome 09-08-15 07:52 PM

Looks like a nice little frame. The blue fenders with the white bar tape make it look so 70's. You'll need tube socks with the 3 color bands at the top.

Steve Whitlatch 09-08-15 07:54 PM

That is a beautiful frame. I can`t wait to see it built up. :thumb:
