I've been interested in meeting the Chicago C&V/CR crowd for a while, so I'm planning to make a long drive and attend the ride. Sounds great!

That is a pretty long drive. It should be a lot of fun. Looking forward to meeting you.

Well my guess was wrong. It is 15 miles out. Seemed like 22. So we can do the north end to make an even 50 mile day.

I do not know the trail very much past South Elgin. I am glad you will be there.

If you make it past Geneva, be sure to check out Fabyan Forest Preserve. It's right on the trail and feature a windmill, Frank Lloyd Wright villa, Japanese garden (I got married there), and the Infamous "bear cage".

Have a great ride all!

That is beautiful. I have ridden from Geneva all the way south on the trail with John, another forum member. . I just have never gotten all of the way into St. Charles from my house. The farthest south I have gone on the trail from home is to the Fox River Bluff West County Forest Preserve on the north end of St. Charles. That is were I am totally comfortable leading the ride to. Anything past that up to Geneva is new territory for me to discover.

I will be riding my 1984 Guerciotti for this ride because it has the best brakes in my fleet. Keep in mind that we are riding on a narrow trail with traffic going both directions and we share this trail with joggers, dog walkers, children as well as other cyclists that may or may not have a clue.

Looks like what broke around the house this week can wait til I get back. I'll be on a crappy looking blue Raleigh Grand Prix.

I'm not going to be able to make it. I'll be preparing a bike for a friend who is dipping her toes into the world of road bikes and need to make a trip into Working Bikes today.

Have a good ride.

A special thanks goes out to iab for inviting us all to his house to see his incredible collection of bikes. A true jaw dropping experience.

Most pleasant day. Perfect climate, scenic paths along the Fox River, west of Chicago. Cool old established towns. Awesome brunch / breakfast Panini at a French café, sat outside a few feet from the trail. Steve is a great host. Will do again!

Also, nice to meet the other Steve and Mike. Lastly, iab show and tell is quite a treat. Well, more like Steve W, mentioned... jaw dropping. Cheer's all~

Ps. Later will post whatever few pics I have of the day.

I just woke up from my nap.

It was great meeting you and thanks for sharing some of your cycling history. I am sure you have many more great stories to tell. Looking forward to hearing more of them in the future. Seeing your beautiful Grand Prix made me miss my old one. Cool bike!

I don`t want to think about iab`s beautiful single speed Bianchi. He passed me on the big climb with it. I must train harder. (face in palm) LOL

But such a pretty looking bike.

Thanks to Steve W. and all of the participants for making the ride so fun! The ride along the Fox River trail was a nice slice of scenery. The trail facilities (bridges, paving, etc) in the Chicago area are very extensive and an example to the rest the country to how good it can be.

I didn't take as many pictures as I intended, but let me offer what I've got.
Here are a few taken from the saddle while riding along the trail....

A shot of Scott G's neat "Peugeot". A 4 speed freewheel sure didn't slow him down!

We did stop in at the bike shop in Carpentersville, which was very appropriate for a vintage ride. A handful of lovely mature bikes hung on the walls. Here are a couple..... (and I should mention that I'm a big Raleigh nerd)...

enjoy,
Steve in Peoria

Sorry to have missed out on this, looks like a good time and you could not have had a better day for it! Unf I have not been very active with riding this summer, and I had work on the 12th.

I am thinking about a Lakefront ride, which we traditionally (last few years anyway) have done in the fall. Bob Troy has organized this in the past, but he has gone to his reward...California I mean.
