1962 Schwinn Traveler

Hi all -

Could I get a second opinion on this '62 Traveler? Asking $250, but it's been on the market for 2 months, so I'm sure I can get the price down. I have been in search of a replacement vintage Schwinn, after my girlfriend got her 70s Chicago Schwinn stolen. It wouldn't be used for anything besides short commutes to work (maybe about 3-4 miles), so I'm not super concerned about the weight.

From the ad - "All original parts except seat. Sturmey Archer 3-speed. Rides well but needs a tune. Rear brake needs adjusting since it has been outside the past few months."

Appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

$250 is absurdly high. Like - laughably ridiculously high. Even $100 would be pretty high. Not unreasonable - but still high.

It has some funky old-school charm, but not a special or "collector" bike by any means. Step-through frame reduces the price to giveaway, basically. Unless you live in Brooklyn or some college town where bikes like this are ironically hip and the look is more important than the performance. Then, about $100, if it doesn't need new tires and brake pads; which it almost certainly does :(http://www.zoominto.com/zoomapi/ZoomButt.gif

In my town, $50. And even then it would probably sit another two months before somebody claimed it.

Appreciate the heads up. I wasn't aware step-through frames were a negative. I'm in no rush, so I'll keep hunting. Thanks!

There's nothing wrong with them, and at that level may actually offer greater utility, it's just that most buyers of vintage steel aren't interested in "girl's bike."

I paid $40 for the 1952 and $50 for the 1963 boys models at a bicycle swap meet. The price is nuts for a girls model. Just because the bike says Schwinn doesn't make them gold mines. Roger
