Due to longer than expected unemployment I actually have this bike up on CL but at a "I really hope no one buys it but if they do I can accept that" price. If it sells then in addition to the needed $$ it also gives me a new opportunity to find a great Japanese touring bike and restore it.

1986 Schwinn Passage. Love how it fits and rides and looks

Very nice work on that! I absolutely love what you've done with it. These grand touring bikes all just look so classy beautiful. I feel they have so much more personality than stripped down race bikes. I just can't get enough of them!

1986 Panasonic Pro Touring

First big thanks to cohoya for this fine frameset/brakes/shifters/headset and excellent shipping, very easy no brainer deal!

Build date of Dec 1985 is that golden age of Japanese touring bicycle. Nicely finished frame as Panasonics are all very well built especially the upper end models. Took this one on a 50 miler shakedown where it performed flawlessly but sold it right after to raise $ for windsurfing. Shown with companion T700 which is a very similar setup. You could customize either one of these frames any number of ways and their quality is on par with any other high end tourers of the time.

Looks great, and much better than hanging on a peg in my shed.

With the 86 Passage Sold and a new job secured it didn't take long to find a replacement mid 80s Japanese touring to replace the hole in my quiver, thank you @The Thin Man, for selling me the 1987 Nishiki Cresta GT, I hope to start the resto soon.

I didn't know this thread existed until a little bit ago. The work with the platypus coin is very nice...quite appropriate.

There's just something about Japanese touring bikes... clean lines & beautiful proportions; practical, functional features; reasonable pricing... Theirs is a hard package to beat. There are several others worth looking at, though; imho (almost) equally nice- Friend, Everest, Alps (made by Toei); there are couple of frames by Katakura Silk on my 'grail bikes' list-- along with the Toei Bluebird. An early '80s Bridgestone Euraisa (the 650A version, celeste blue with direct-mount center pulls) would be a lot of fun... Fwiw, Cherubim & Zunow also make/ made some beautiful touring frames.

My Cresta GT is at the top of my list of favorite bikes. No pics at the moment. I have front and rear racks, some twenty year old cheap Zefal fenders, and I have a Blackburn trunk bag ON THE FRONT.

I'm not sure it's much help to you. The only thing original is the cantilever brakes. The black bag on the seat tube is a lock made by Life Link, it's also over twenty five years old. It attaches around the tube so it's pretty handy to be able to lock up anywhere without having to actually carry a lock. I have thirteen road bikes and this is at the top of my ride list.

Me looking a little sassy with my '85 Centurion Pro Tour. Love this bike- going to ride to Seattle -> cabo this summer with the same setup + a swift paloma handlebarbag. My dad rode the same frame across the country in the late 80s so it has some sentimental value. I've spent the last 7 years commuting on it and slowly restoring and modernizing it, and have gotten into taking it on short tours this past year. Definitely the least replaceable bike out of the four that I own.

Thanks, and you nailed it! Camped at Deception Pass (where photo was taken) from Seattle a couple weeks ago and then continued on to Lopez Island and then Bellingham to catch a ride back to seattle. Great 3 day weekend tour.

It's easy to take it for granted when the weather is absolute garbage for half the year. The other half is why it's worth it.

Just finished my trip from Seattle -> Cabo San Jose. Of course amazing trip. Pics with the drops are from a day off in San Francisco (enjoying my bike sans bags). Now that I'm back home I decided to throw some Albastache bars that I had laying around on it. Very fun bars! Wasn't expecting to like them as much as I do. Curious how they'll hold up for longer rides.

Fantastic looking bike!!!

Can you use ATB brake levers/shifters with those Albastache bars?
