Please help me Identify this bike.

I am new to vintage bikes and would like to buy a road bike that is made of CroMo with preferably 700c wheels. While looking I found an ad for a Miyata bike with possibly what I am looking for.

Linked here: Miyata bicycle | bmx | City of Toronto | Kijiji[1]

The problem is I cannot find the exact one in their catalogs. It looks like it could be a Miyata Team bike according to the color scheme but the closest matches either have different lettering or a white seat tube not blue.

Also more problems:
-No lettering on seat tube
-"Approved by Miyata" sticker (possibly a later Taiwan model)
-Blue to white transition a fade not straight cut like all catalog models
-Plastic pedals

So is this a fake? How could I REALLY tell if it's real and what model could it be.

Thank you so much any help is appreciated.

Welcome to BF. Many on here are quite versed with Miyata and will chime in with some helpful info

I would suggest doing a search on BF, many good threads to read which would allow you to answer some of your own questions.

It looks like a 1988 Miyata 110. See here and here. It was a low end Miyata (still good quality).

Welcome to the forum.

You are riding the line between doing your research and getting good advice, and we'll always trend towards the advice here on C&V.

First, though, there is pretty much no reason to fake 99% of the bikes on this forum, for any reason. Really, we're cheap dates.

Second, Miyata didn't make anything junk, so their entry-level stuff is pretty good, right from the get-go.

Third, if it was a Team Miyata, generally someone would be a-after it, b-able to tell you it was a Team Miyata, or b-stole it, and c-not selling it cheaply, even if stolen.

Yes, T-Mar knows everything.

However, if you don't know what it is, didn't steal it, and no one told you it was a Team Miyata, you're probably better off just riding it and not dwelling on it's pedigree.

Hey it is the same bike I would bet, both the OP and the poster from the threads you reference are from Toronto. So he paid $100 and is selling for $200, which is fine if he did the upgrade to 700C wheels as he discussed.

In Toronto where prices are pretty high, that still isn't a bad price. That is a better bike than many that get listed for $200 or more.

Thank you so much for the quick reply. Just in the nick of time before I left. I don't think a pretty paint job is worth $200 for a non CR-MO 27" bike. Please leave your opinions if you think its worth it.

Also the fact that I just saw a 912 get sold for $120 in about 20 seconds before I could get to it really makes me salty.
