First road bike..
A friend of mine gave me his old Giant Cabriolet 10 speed for free. I've never owned a road bike, so I figured it'd be a good project to work on. I did some research and understand it's a pretty low end bike, however, do these old 10 speeds ride well? I had to drop it off at my LBS for a tune up, and need to replace the front wheel and get a new set of tires. It seemed in great condition otherwise. Probably gonna use it as my commuter for school. I haven't gotten a chance to ride it yet, but what should I expect coming from a lifelong experience with mountain bikes?

Even if you decide you like road cycling and eventually move up to something better, you may want to keep this as a beater/commuter and general transportation bike, particularly when running an errand in which security may be a bit chancy. This is why I find I actually need five bicycles (see signature -- Schwinn mountain bike, UO-8 beater, Bianchi fast and fun fair-weather friend, Capo Modell Campagnolo for comfort on long rides, and Capo Sieger as a classic project.
