Name That Frame!

Hello again. I’m curious what make this frame might be. 27.2 seatpost, 2 sets of bottle cage mounts, serial on front/bottom of head tube (U90…), brazed on shifter bosses, average bb shell, fork is a replacement. Any idears?

late '70's - early '80's

fork a replacement, beneath the quality of the frame

fork tips and dropouts will not match

I was going to say Panasonic. My Pana has its serial number in the same place.

Panasonic-built Schwinns also have that so might be one of them, but that top tube cable guide looks distinctive and will probably lead somewhere.

Is there a name on the dropouts? What is the rear spacing?

The drops have lots of skewer scars, but I see no evidence of branding. They aren't drilled for adjusters. Rear is 126mm.

For some reason it reminds me of a Bianchi, but I can't say why. Maybe the seat lug.

I think we're getting somewhere! Didn't Bianchi also use the round bottle mounts around that time as well? It can't be too high up in the pecking order given the lack of details. Brava? Also maybe produced for another brand (Puch?)

Check out this Lotus frame on CL:

No idea what the seatpost size is, but the other details look close.

Seat binders and caps on seat stays differ and the brake bridge on the blue one requires nesting pads compared to the other. Lotus might have come from the same factory but be lower-line than our mystery frame.

Yes, the Bianchi I have does use the round bottle braze ons.

Need more to attach a name though.
