Who recognises this titanium frame ?
 

I bought this titanium frame some time ago. No markings, only this serialnumber on the bottombracket. The 84 propably stands for 1984 as the bike was fitted with Campy's 50th Anniversary gruppo. Bottombracket is Italian threaded, so it propably is an Italian brand. Any ideas ?

Very nice. '84 strikes me as really early for a Ti frame. If you ping the tubes does it resonate like a bell or is it a bit more of a thud?

Milo:Are you trying to figure whether the tubes are "double butted", tapered of some variation?
I am not sure they made them (Ti Tubes) tapered that long ago?

James:I would guess the same an Italian bike. I visited a lot of manufacturer's while in Italy years ago during that period. Any established manufacture had many apprentice and self made frame builders that practice on their own. What size is it? What are your plans with it?

It's a bit of a rough test as both steel and Ti can thud, whether of not they are a butted tube. But, if any of the tubes ring, I wouldn't be so sure it's Ti but Ti (or similar) plated steel.

Just a guess: Maybe Passoni? They're still around, so you could ask if they recognize it. Definitely not a Speedwell (I have a '73 Ti). Be gentle with the seat binder bolt, a common fail point on these early Ti frames. Cool frame!

The fork crown does look a bit different, but the smooth welds look similar.

(ohhh, Italian threading. Maybe not Fuji).

The frame resonates like a bell. This is definitely titanium. The frame is extremely light: the frame weighs 1410 grams, the fork 542.
This is a size 54 c-c.
I plan to restore it with original decals and eventually sell it as it is too small for me.

Could that be a Serotta?

I don't remember, but isn't Ti non-magnetic??

That's my guess too, it has that smoothness. OP - is the fork ti? A Passoni would be an incredible find - that's a true Grail. CDM has one...titanium bar/stem. It's just awe inspiring.

Very few italians built their own ti frames, and this is early. No, it's not a Serotta.
