A few years ago fell into my hands this pair of old bicycles. (24 x 3/8 inch of wheels)

They were in terrible conditions, rust everywhere, the wheels and the handlebars not spin at all.

In my free time I put them in conditions, making them run properly. (Change some axles, tyres, handlebars, tubes, etc)

Before applying new paint, this two bikes had decals of "PRIETO", a shop in a village 80 km from my city where you could rent bicycles and use them for going around town. PRIETO was the surname of the man who started this business, importing bikes from england and france for rent them.

And so the story ends, now my question: anyone know the brand of this bike ?? (I refer to the frame and fork)

Now a few details.

*Of the first bike. Rear Wheel (40 holes): freewheel raleigh, raleigh hub, rim Dunlop. Front Wheel (32 Holes): raleigh hub, rim Dunlop. I only put new handlebars, pedals, saddle and chain. I believe the others parts are Original.

Sorry for my poor english.

Cheers.

The bikes have 24 x 3/8 inch wheels. ( Boys bike )

PS: unfortunately all people who maybe know ( about the bikes) in my city are dead, This guy PRIETO has been dead for over 40 years.

The pattern of 40 spokes in the rear and 32 in the front was a very common practice in England, Beyond that, I am not of much help, other than noting that I once was a caretaker for a 1929 Raleigh rod-brake bicycle, and both the rim type, brake mechanics and frame styling were all very different from these bikes. I would guess that they are likely English, but not likely Raleighs.

edit - as I think this over a bit more - I realize it is hazardous to identify a bicycle from the wheels - so it is possible that the wheels are original, or replacements, Also it is hazardous to generalize that being different from one example that was once owned. I think it is safer to say that these are not Raleigh Sports models, and that if they are Raleighs, they would be less expensive models than the Sports.

In my country it is very difficult to find a pair of wheels Dunlop, and even more so 50 years ago. So I believe that both bikes have the original wheels. (In fact the one with new spokes, before i put them, have it all original chromed spokes, the one with the R selled in the head, most obviously in pretty bad condition).

And the fork dont look from a Raleigh of any year or model , maybe I could be wrong. I searched this among the following bicycle brands: James, Halfords, Royal Enfield, Kerry's, Humber, Hercules, and others to find a clue to resolve this mistery.

PS I think the key to find out what brand they are is the Headset and Headtube, also the Bottom Braket. But what do I know ?

Thanks for answering.
