Just my opinion but I nominate this a "coolest bike of the year". A 1930's track bike? Can you describe those rims?

Any idea on the history of it?

Hoops are wooden Lodbell, rear hub is marked Phillips and front Sivada D.S.

Saw it on CL yesterday, sent an email but didn't get an answer and the ad disappeared, received an email this morning saying that someone offered more of the asking price but never showed up and that if I was still interested on it for the original price.

I don't track, picked it up because it looked interesting and had a good price on it. I've never had a bike this old before. Not sure what I'll be doing with it :)

Enjoy it in any means you wish. You are now the Stewart of a wonderful piece of cycling history.

Would be be spectacular to see it back on the drome. I bet a simple cleaning would make the paint and components stand out.

Oh this is so beautiful. I would take up track riding just to get back on a velodrome but it would be fantastic just to rebuild it back into rideable condition.

Wow, that is in remarkable condition, really! What's wrong with the front wheel; did someone unbuild it carefully, or did the spokes pull out of the rim :eek:?

There is a serial number on the back of the fork crown and under the BB. Experts disagree about whether the first two digits give the year of manufacture....

Wheels are in good shape, looks like someone took the front one apart in preparation for cleaning or restoring, must have been a long time ago since all the little tape tags on the spokes are faded and falling apart.

Numbers are barely visible but looks like 39517? on both places. Also what looks like "PD" on the bottom bracket.

So I tentatively suggest your frame was made in 1939. I understand there will be doubters; but I don't understand the argument. They were numbered before painting, so the numbers are usually faint.

I don't follow much of the vintage track bikes but none less, find them interesting. For the little I know, this example is tops!

Amazing its all there. Just a very mild clean, lube, perhaps some rim eyelets or whatever, retain the spokes, replace brake block inserts, vinti tires and its set. With those graphics and decals, not even sure its good to even wax it. Do a little research beforehand. Sometimes the oils in a wax will work its way in and eventually break it down and it starts separating.

That is going to be a very special bike when complete. I think those were the brakes Shimano tried to copy with their "Aero" design in the 80s. I'm too classy to ask what you paid for it...unless you wanted to tell us.

How is the rear brake attached? Looks like it clamps to the stays?

Amazing find. The first thing that struck me was how "modern" this track bike looks. Hard to believe that they had things this well worked out back in the 30's.
