Which gears?

Hi,
I've just picked up a c1938 tandem (BSA). It has a 3 speed Sturmey archer? Trivolex? rear hub with a Sturmey Archer handle bar mounted changer but because the hub was slipping the previous owner had a 3 speed 'Cyclo' derailleur fitted with a top tube lever changer. I can't upload the pictures I've taken at the minute so will add a couple of generic ones if I can.

My question is.. Is it worth fixing the Sturmey Archer hub or just keeping the derailleur in terms of authentic value?

TIA.:)

EDIT: Now I'm confused the sales brochure for the bike is attached.... Which gears is it even supposed to have????

aaaaaah confused....

I wish I could answer your question, but that is one cool derailleur! I had never seen one that bolts to the seat stay.

Your brochure indicates that the gear changer should be the Cyclo with top tube shifter. Perhaps the prior owner installed the Sturmey-Archer in order to add some gears. What kind of freewheel is mounted on the S-A?

I think it would nice to get the SA working so you would have a 3x3 gearing setup which was somewhat common on bikes of this vintage. There is a good chance it came with the double shifter setup from the original dealer.
