You're married to an engineer, and you haven't memorized every Monty Python skit yet?

I need to have a talk with Mr. VV...

@degan,

I had to walk away from the monitor for awhile after reading your reply to cool off. Please note that I PM'ed you privately wondering what you were going to do with the box, and after waiting a few days with no reply, posted the same question on this thread.

The BOC is supposed to be fun and games. Previous moderators (ie, Crapmasters) put together a set of rules which are at once real and tongue-in-cheek. Check post #1 in this thread: "I am the Crap Master. I'd prefer to be a Time Lord and be called The Doctor, but there you have it." I would think this would tip you off at how I'm playing this online persona. I play up the "Crapmaster" role channeling the Wizard of Oz persona for fun, and dish out penance, again for fun, for violation such as not taking and posting pictures (rules 8 & 9), failing to post shipment and/or receive dates (rule 7), etc. In reality, just like the Wizard, I have no powers. I keep track of the order, remind people to keep the box moving, make bad jokes, etc., and it's all in fun. I do this on weekends, on vacation, and sneak in some posts while at work. It's not like I'm getting paid to take online abuse.

Timing is such that you should just ship the box to me. @awfulwaffle has the box and is probably already set to send it to @Lascauxcaveman, and I'm next in line. I'll consolidate and send it along. There's probably enough borked crap in it that two decent boxes will make one great one. Anything extra will get donated to Community Cycle Center in Portland.

Please PM me for shipping address.

Wow, where to start. I'm sorry my 5 months of personal hell has upset you.

My last post before I left said that I would get the box going again when I could. At the time I wasn't sure if I'd live to see the box again, but thats neither here nor there at this point. Before I posted saying I am back in the same part of the country as my bike stuff (and the box) I looked through some older posts and it seemed like there was talk of what should be done once two boxes are in play. @gugie, you should read post #437. I left my posts vague because I didn't know what decisions had been made about how to proceed. I assumed once I reestablished communication with the thread that the crapmaster would take the lead in figuring out who it should go to or if they should be consolidated or whatever decisions you guys made in the 500+ posts since my last post. All I got was condescension. I understand that its a game and that there are rules, you didn't need to tell me in two different posts. I assumed that, since there are two boxes now, you wouldn't just want me to send it willy-nilly to the next person on the list without some discussion first.

I've been around these forums a lot longer than even my join date indicates so I know that the community is generally caring and understanding, but I guess nobody bats 1000.

PM me w/ shipping address.

I apologize, I thought for sure you were blowing me off for a PM that I thought I sent about a week ago, but double checking, I don't see it in my "sent" list - I thought for sure I had sent you one asking if you were planning on sending the box out. I waited a few days, and not seeing a reply, posted on the BOC thread.

I see that you're in Oregon? If so, perhaps someday soon we can get together so I can buy you a drink.

Or maybe a ride.

Or maybe both!

I asked him if he'd ever heard of it and he smiled and said yes. Don't worry, after we married he indoctrinated me onto Monty Python, Dr. who, and so forth. It's all good.

Happy to help manage a second herd of cats. Perhaps we just alternate though, send a box to whoever (or is it whomever?) is next in line. In that case, I suspect someone (Bob) anticipating arrival of box A would have to "claim" the person they intend to send the box to (Virginia), so the person about to receive box B (Sam) doesn't also send theirs to Virginia, but selects the next person down the list (Charlie).

You've been bugging me for awhile to do this, so, ok! I'll "skip send" the box. I hope it doesn't get too complicated.

@gugie Just to make sure I understand, you are proposing we play hopscotch with a single list, not create two lists? The phrase, "skip send" is a bit ambiguous, given my nickname.

Hey, I'm making this up as I go along! Somehow I don't think two, competing lists are the way to go. On the other hand, I always hate it when I have to "chose" between two lines at the store. I always choose the one with the slower checker, the person who has to have a price check, the one who writes a check and fumbles around trying to find the checkbook...but let's give it a try.

Input from others?

My vote is for consolidation of a single box. More boxes = more confusion = more chances of things going awry = less fun.

How about one list with two pointers? Send the original box to nlerner, who was on the list after degan, and have it go from there following the order it would have if nothing had happened. It's as simple as singing in rounds.

Something I was never able to master. Not even Row, Row, Row Your Boat.

Whatever way makes the most sense for @gugie is really fine with me. I suggested parallel lists a couple times (but that has the "I always seem to choose the slowest checkout" problem), but two boxes playing hopscotch on one list is also good (which puts the onus on the two current box holders to keep them from crashing into one another), as is merging the two boxes we have right now (which is a one-time task). If the last option is chosen, I suggest that when @degan is ready to mail it, that it send it to the same person who will receive the other box. That person then merges the two into one, either taking in a really big, crappy haul, or donating a bunch of stuff which didn't make the grade to the local bike co-op.

I'm new to the game and have yet to see a BOC, but I vote for a consolidated BOC, rather than 2.

I know its an oxymoron, but it seems like that would result in higher quality crap.

I vote for one box. I'm glad to be the recipient for @degan's box if he's itching to send it off, but the confusion that would ensue with two boxes and one list makes me very itchy.

As a former cat-herder, I also vote for one box. This game can be difficult to manage on good days!

Alright, one box it is. I've already PM'ed my address to @degan, I'll consolidate after the Caveman sorts out his crap. I would have had degan send it up to points north of here, but @Lascauxcaveman would be frightened and confused with all of this technology.
