Classic steel suspensionless mountain bikes?

I know this is an old thread but just wanted to say it's been really useful for me. I'm looking for an old steel frame for a long distance bikepacking trip through some less-developed countries. I've been spending lots of time on Craigslist and visiting the local bike non-profits that take in donated bikes, fix them up, and sell them.
You guys have already created a great list in this thread, but also wanted to point out this list in case it's useful to anyone:

I like stumpjumpers and Trek 900 series. I own a 1987 Stumpjumper and a 1991 as well as a 1993 Trek 950. My favorite though is my 1993 Bridgestone MB 1.

There's no such thing as a zombie thread for C&V bikes.
Add the Kona Lava Dome Race Light and other Kona Race Light versions from the 1990s. I was >>>this<<< close to buying one in February but waited too long for a price drop. Sweet bike, as light as my Centurion Ironman.

I've never been much of a mountain biker, have had more than a few, usually it's build them up, ride them for a couple of months and sell them off. However, the one that I actually hung on to for a couple of years, rode semi regularly (it's didn't hurt that I had my own set of trails on my five acre wooded yard at the time) was this Gary Fisher Gitchie Gummi.
It's probably the only mountain bike that I was ever really comfortable with, at one point had a suspension fork on it. Never, never, never should have sold it (I'd built a Fuji frame with front suspension and disc brakes, sold the Fisher as I was finishing it, and within three weeks decided I didn't like the Fuji at all).
