No way they would have used rhino leather on that saddle as rhinos were already severely endangered a species even back when they made those saddles. They would have gotten so much flak from the public/conservationists and maybe even prosecuted by law if they did...

Yeah. All rhinos are protected now under CITES appendix I and II regs. But some domestic trade is still allowed in South Africa
Theoretically, they could make a bike saddle out of rhino hide in S.A., I suppose.

I thought it began all wrinkly.

If it is a synthetic, it should tolerate moisture ok. Perhaps it depends a bit on how porous the covering is.

As, hopefully, they have thick enough hides to withstand insults and inquisitions...

As the one who started the drift toward politics, I apologize. It was a careless thing to do.

Maybe I can get a government grant to help the Russians dig up a few frozen mammoths in the Russian tundra?
...... RHM might be able to tell me how much hide I would need to re-cover a Brooks Pro......
No worries about endangered species, as they went extinct thousands of years ago, plus the Russians seem to find and dig up a few ever year anyway!

I believe it's made from rhinoceros foreskin. No rhinos were harmed in the process though you wouldn't want to have the job of circumcising those rhinos.

That would be one of those situations where wanting the job should disqualify a person from holding that job.

Out of deep stupidity, I managed to win two different auctions for Cambrium saddles this last weekend, at a time when I couldn't really afford them, and one would need on. Good prices and all, but...nobody bid against me.
