N+? for the year
I was going through my project priority spreadsheet (yep, OCD) and thought it was a good year as I was only N+1. 4 acquisitions and 3 sales, then I remembered the "Baja" bikes I picked up last week. A Trek 800 Antelope and a Diamondback rigid MTB. Both for $40.00. Perfect for camping trips to Baja-unbreakable, low loss if stolen, versatile.
So I'm N+3 for the year. No great C&V pick-ups, only the two Baja bikes qualify even remotely. For 2016 I hope to unload 8 or 9 as the bike cave is officially over-full. No goals for buying, but I am certain something will come along that strikes my fancy. Primary goal is to finish a couple of projects and Momma wants a new bathroom down stairs... |

I got rid of anything mid pack. I am now just concentrating on the truly top shelf vintage stuff. Maybe 1-2 bikes a year, if that.
So it's N-5(?) for me. |

+4, -0 IIRC, I'm +8 and -6 for a net N+2. Busier trading year than I anticipated. Way down on actual riding, though, and I can feel it :( |
I'm N-8...9...10? I don't know, but I only kept my first bike (a Quintana Roo), which is in storage in Texas, and my daily driver here in California. Everything else is fine, including most of the parts I had stashed away.
On the other hand, I've ridden a lot more this year than I have in a while. |
N-1. I sold all three of my great bikes, 1984 Guerciotti, 1972 Paramount and my beautiful Criterium, 1950`s French racing bike to raise needed money for bills. I built up two frames I had in limbo from my parts bin. 1981 Miyata 912 and a 1992 Schwinn Crosspoint. Both are very nice builds and great rides but I still feel a tremendous loss. It was a very bad year. I hope to have a better 2016.
I did have quite a few very nice bikes come through that I rebuilt that I flipped. http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/a...psoano1fuu.jpg http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps7imqkv94.jpg |
I call my "N", 3 bicycles. As that is the number my wife and I agree on as an acceptable number of bicycles (even thought "the rules" determine that "N" is the number of bikes I currently own). And currently I am 2 bicycles over the number that was agreed on. That doesn't put me at "S" (yet). But I do need to lose at least one bike. See rule 12
The embarrassing part is that only 1 of my 5 bicycles are steel. |
n-1
Bought a '73 Raleigh Carlton International. Built it up with parts off my Schwinn Letour (which I still have, but have zero attachment to). Officially retired my ~1990 Peugeot with its Reynolds 501 frame, "Team Dumpster" aka "Jessica". (I don't feel it is safe to ride and I have had its replacement, the custom ti "Jessica J" for 4 years now. The Raleigh has been at the framebuilder and painter for a while so I've been managing with 4 bikes. (It was an unbelievably light frame. Now I know why. They left the brazing solder in Nottingham.) Ben |
N+1
The "1" is this frame but as I've no components for it, maybe it only counts as 0.5. http://i800.photobucket.com/albums/y...psfnrdbiie.jpg |

I lost count overall, so I'm N+/-????

N-1. I tried my best to downsize the fleet and mostly failed. I would like to get down another 3-4 bikes for 2016. Need to make some tough choices.

Well, you know the -0 part is incorrect, since I took your DeRosa and Merckx #1 off your hands in February. I thought you told me you gave away some bikes to your offspring at that time, too?

That Weigle is a beauty!

Holding steady at 9. First year in a while w/o any bike buys.
in 2016, I plan on n -6. |
N+7 - But to be fair, one is a daily driver MTB, so that doesnt really count, and 4 i bought just to rob the nice groups/build kits from for something else, but havent gotten around to it yet
hoping to start 2016 off with stripping those 4 down so i can N- the frames and get some legitimate projects finished :thumb: i sole my former daily driver MTB as well and gave 2 vintage bmx'ers to a friend's children (he appreciates old school BMX enough to ensure the youngsters dont abuse them) |

I'm n-13 in the last two years. Some frame sets are still here and I'll sell those this spring. I have a BMC Monstercross and Yeti SB full squishy on order. Bring on the trails/gravel in 2016. :) |
Much of what came and went was in the form of frame sets rather than complete bikes, but here's what flew the coop over the last year or so:
