Wishing you all a Merry Christmas, I Hope that you received some very nice gifts .....even if you had to buy them for yourselves. Happy that my Daughter is home for the holidays from CAL Berkeley....enough for me. Show us your Holiday gifts, I would like to live vicariously this year. Regards, Ben |
Found this under the tree and am half way though it. Hilarious read and yet so accurately captures the various nuances of cycling culture.

^ Ben, did she bring you any tasty tidbits from Great China Restaurant up on the edge of campus?
Brought my Velo Cheapo with me to NJ, so I finished wrapping the handlebar a few minutes ago. https://dl.dropbox.com/s/3o2grz9kolh...%201.jpeg?dl=0 |
The best things under the tree were cheers of joy, big smiles and hugs from my daughters. I also got my favorite candy.

I'm Santa, and this is done, but with used white wrap, as the new stuff won't be here until next week.
Red cable housings, different crankset, Ultegra 6700...700x24 clinching tubulars en route. Not ready for prime time. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=495009 UPDATE in a later post. |
Total surprise, I got a Cycleops Fluid 2 trainer.
I had ankle surgery last week where they rebroke my ankle and removed a bit of the bone since it didn't initially heal right, so this will be great for low impact work in 4-5 weeks when I am off crutches and allowed to exercise. OJ- incredible find for what's called a 'cheapo'! |
We flew our oldest in from Oregon for a strangely warm midwest Christmas. Then found out my dad's gift that should of arrived yesterday just to five hours north of me....went to Pennsylvania instead and won't see it until tomorrow or next week. But I got some sweet winter bibs, a Pace merino wool winter cap, Surly Steamroller fork, frame pump and my subscription to Bicycle Quarterly renewed.

Great China, 2191 Bancroft Way, on the corner across the street from campus, very modern. It came up during Christmas Eve dinner yesterday with family friends at Duck King, by the GW Bridge in Edgewater NJ. I have friends or family all over the USA. Was in Marin County for a few days on the way back from Hawaii in August 2014, and joined some long time family friends, originally from NYC, but now in Piedmont, SF, and Walnut Creek, for dinner at Great China. Great food!
I didn't know about that one but we will try it...next time your out that way try Shen Hua a few blocks from campus but very good food and a great bar too. Cheers, Ben |
Robbie, your fleet always entertains. Do you still have that wild purple spider kit?

Main gift was a new bench vice that exactly fits the holes I drilled for the old one, and a CD - Levon Helm, "Electric Dirt".
|
My n+1 gift to myself will be here next week. My wife picking out bike stuff is like me picking out her makeup supplies. Better we just do it ourselves.
|
Hugs and smiles from the kids and a SF Giants apron that will probably be used in the kitchen rather than the workshop.
I bought "Road to Valor" a couple of days ago for myself. Other than a nice set of Giordana arm warmers from my Mom a few years ago, I've never gotten any bike stuff, which is probably just as well. |
Bike-related gift of the day: a pair of Continental Grand Prix Classic tires. And man, they just feel quality and they're not even on the bike. I fear Paselas may never fully satisfy again.
|
A Sneaky Pete for my 738TCP
|
Some great books including the pictorial "Goggles and Dust" from Velopress, but mostly cashing in the xmas credit on an M1A NM to begin my long-planned return to competition long range shooting.

Got a Shimano 600 13-26 freewheel and some stuff from Chaminade University in Honolulu. My daughter read her email last night at 11pm and woke us up excitedly that she had been accepted into their nursing program starting next August. She wasn't expecting any news until March 1 so this was a definite surprise. She's ecstatic to go to school in Hawaii. Her reaction on Christmas Eve made everything else seem trivial.

Congrats again. |
Bike things, of course, haha. Shimano A530 pedals for the trail/commuter bike and Banjo Brothers' handlebar bag. It fits my SLR, yay!
