1981 Miyata 310
For your database: serial number is J346540. Burgundy model 310 (not the 310S). Matches 1981 catalog specs for some of the parts, especially the dia compe brake calipers with the funny self-centering device.
Our co-op gets a reasonable number of miyatas and nishikis passing through, so I'll try to remember to start collecting serial numbers for you. |
thanks really helpful.

My (assumed 1989) Bridgestone Radac hybrid (ie flat bar, no front mech cable routing) frame has the serial 8161285.
|
Just picked up a presumed Japanese built Randonneur frameset, built for 650B, fully fillet brazed, Biplane fork crown, roller over the BB shell for the rear mech cable, Hellenic seatstays (seems this was common), takes a 26.8 seat post, hole in the head rube for a badge and frame number is J200348. I know a picture or five would be helpful here but I'm sufficiently new (to this forum) that I can't post pics yet, besides, it's more fun trying to figure it out this way isn't it? Any ideas!?

Someone on FaceBook answered quickly, it's a 1974 Bridgestone Diamond DC-6115.
|
BTW, I see Sakae Litage isn't on the list, my '90 bonded aluminium road frame has serial 90900097 - these were fairly numerous and re-badgeg by a number of other brands including 3Rensho through the late 80s/early 90s. Probably too obvious to point out that the first two digits are probably the year of manufacture, huh?

Crusty Schwinn Sierra
My first Schwinn of any kind. Picked up this old beast for the stem. Now I kinda dig it and another serial number for T-Mar is a good thing.

Can anyone help with my Kent number? The only number I can find on the bike is "7102", under the crank. It's a Kent Rollin' Thunder, made in Indonesia.

I've got a 1988 Schwinn KOM that I'm in discussions with both a bike shop owner and Richard Schwinn on Waterford with- regarding whether or not it's a Greenville or a Panasonic Schwinn. SN is E800082. If this is a Panasonic, it'd almost certainly be a rebadged Panasonic MC-7500 (the weird lug on the unicrown fork is a dead giveaway). Date code on headbadge is 2028.
Would this be a National/Panasonic? Per the thread, the year/month codes would be reversed, but Richard Schwinn (who I'm inclined to believe) says a Greenville bike SN would be "something like EZ800082". |

Novara Randonee - Made In Japan
I have a Novara Randonee that I am fairly certain is a 1993 model but I couldn't find much more information than that (who manufactured, etc.). The serial is 93B5528, which looks to me 1993, B is month? Feb? I know that Fairly was a manufacturer of Novara bikes, but with this being made in Japan instead of Taiwan, I was curious. Nice lugged frame with Tange double butted tubes

Thxs. :thumb: The S/N format is consistent with Pacific Cycles of Taiwan and indicates 1987. That fits nicely with the estimated date. I've update the 1st date to include St. Tropez, per your contribution. You've got credit in the "edit" section, at least until the next revision.

Univega Sportour
Hello. New to the forum, but I have found it very useful, so I thought I'd add the serial number of the Univega Sportour I recently acquired and am in the process of cleaning up. The components seem to be original.
Looks to be a model year 1981 (or maybe 1982?). I couldn't find catalogs from either year to figure out the difference between the two. Chromoly frame/ Made in Japan: J578866 (Miyata manufactured in 1981) Dia Compe 500G Side Pull Brakes = 0381 (March 1981) Shimano 600 Arabesque Friction Shifters = FC (March, 1981) Shimano 600 Arabesque Rear Derailleur = FD (April, 1981) Shimano 600 Arabesque Front Derailleur = FE (May, 1981) Araya 27" x 1.25" alloy wheels Shimano Hubs = FD (April 1981) Uniglide Cassette (6 speed) Custom crankset Univega logo'd Italia saddle |
Help?
Hi guys. I'm new to the forum and thank you in advance for your help. I'm looking to identify the make of a frame which I initially thought was an early 80s Raleigh. However, after a little digging the closest match I've found using the serial number and studying photos is possibly a Miyata.my serial number starts YF3******. Is there anything else I can do to check? Thanks!!

Thank you! It helped a ton
