How to spell 'Raleigh'

I've seen errors before, and I don't want to be a nitpicker, but this case of 'extreme spelling' caught my attention. How many mistakes can one make in a seven-letter word?

99% of the time they mix the e and i up. The other times, who knows:)

If they send me those panniers, all will be forgotten !

CV-6 12-28-15 02:12 PM

Guess they couldn't read it on the bike?

Sorry, 'zonder fietstassen' means 'without panniers'. You do get an extra lock, though. With your Railley.

I'd rather ride a Rolly.

Make mine a Raw-league.

andr0id 12-28-15 04:48 PM

It's i before e unless after c. Except in words like Boeing.

top506 12-28-15 04:48 PM

You don't need to read Dutch, as every citizen of the Netherlands I've ever met spoke and wrote better English than I do. But then again, I come from New York....

If only we hadn't sold that to the Brits BITD, we wouldn't be having this discussion. Not in English, anyway ... :50:

Bizarre. Are they forgeries or mistakes?

sailorbenjamin 12-28-15 10:51 PM

I used to search Ebay for Ralieghs. Got a nice one for ten bucks once cause there were no other bidders.

Forgive me but I can say some words but can't spell them. So phonetically...

"Stommert, dik suk"

A long time ago, in a galaxy far away I was married to a girl from Amsterdam. Lovely culture. And the bikes there are "hart sticka leowke"

Dooey.

Story I heard was that it was intentional- something about getting around import taxes or something like that.
Scooper or Metacortex would know more.

I believe it was simply the "Palmer" cursive font style used at that time that made it look strange: schNinn
