^^^^^ You're probably right on that last point. Every triple-triangle GT I've seen, the top tube extends backward beyond the seat tube, and there's an end cap for the top tube with the "GT" logo stamped in it.

Is GT a large / popular brand among old bikes down there, or are you just particularly good at finding them?

It's actually a silver powdercoat, not clear over Al.

The hubs are DA7710, rims are Kinlin XR300 with Veloflex tires. DA 7710 crankset and BB. Pedals and post are both older DA. King headset, IRD stem. The fork isn't original (would have been a steel flat-crown track fork) but is a 1" threadless Kinesis road fork.

GT is one of the most popular brandz here, but, 1990's GT bikes are not popular and not easy to find. New ****ty Agressor/Avalanche base versions (3.0) are cheap and people love them despite they always finish using one speed because of that derailleour "chip" getting broke. They are about 120 dollars. My Palomar 98 costed me 80 dollars and was in poor esthetical conditions and had mechanical problems too. I only saw one other Palomar 98 on sale and on the street only 2. A black one which is my friend's and an atomic red one in perfect condition. People tend to overprice old GT. I was interested into an old Karakoram frame for 30 dollar but it was too far for me. Then an old Agressor appeared for 20 dollar, with frame fork and rims but too far too.

Nice Timberline, I dug one from the dumpster recently in rough shape because a tall friend needed a bigger big and owned a small Stumpjumper from the mid 90s to use as a donor bike, i was kind enough to help him get a new big an safe this beauty from the landfill

Here is one of my favorite bikes. The frame was found in a dumpster and I use it mostly as a cruiser (note the lack of a front brake, I can't be bothered to source a disc hub front wheel). It's kind of a Frankenbike which I try fitting only with cool parts. I used a Campy NR RD for a while. Currently my RD is a polished Ultegra unit with closed pulley cage (I've gotten into part polishing a bit). My next eBay parts are used Ritchey carbon rail Streem saddle & Thomson seatpost (yes, it's a sickness)

Beautiful clean-looking Agressor, looks really nice bro! But, i would prefer a 44T crank tbh, but those are personal preferences.

I'm a newb on this forum (err, a lurker really) and just saw this thread.
I just wanted to say, my fav bike ever was a '93(92-94?), I bought it new, modified it extensively over the decade that I owned it.
I took that bike everywhere. Moab in the west, Appalachians in the east and many trails (and a full RAGBRAI) in between. I really, really loved this bike.
Then one fateful night, I came home late, left the bike outside to get changed, and rather than going right back outside to bring the bike in, I sat down and fell asleep.
My GT Pantera was stolen that night, and never recovered, despite years of looking.
Here's the only pics I have of it. I sure miss that bike. I could go one wallowing in self pity, I'll save it (and you, LOL).

just bought this beauty for 80 dollars (2500 uruguayan pesos), runs nice, needs some service and it's M size and i need L or XL but i want to (and if u can help me it would be great) make it comfortable asjusting the stem and the sit. It has Shimano SIS 3x7 but rear derrailleour is not Shimano. What do you think about it?

Hi. Just joined to post a pic of my GT Outpost Trail All Terrain 20" that I scored for free from Craigslist along with a Giant Rincon and a Diamondback Joker about a month ago. My 11yo daughter loved the Rincon but it had 2 bad spokes so I swapped the front wheel from the GT. Recently came upon a 16.5" GT Outpost for $20 so bought it to salvage the front wheel and 7spd shifter to make this one operational. Daughter and I hit the trail Sunday. She managed to do 8 mi which is 2.5 mi over her previous long ride. It still skips 6th gear and the seat isn't as comfortable as others, but for slow trail rides with her, it's perfect. Maybe I'll look for 9 posts to comment on so that I can post the actual pic.😀

Guys i went trough bikepedia and my newest addition to the roster is not an Agressor. I could not find a match between serial numbers in bikepedia so if someone knows about GT serial numbers i would appreciate if he could tell me about this GT model. I'll leave a photo too.

Switched bikes with a friend. He is giving this Palomar 98 and 30 dollars and i gave him my Agressor 96. This Palomar is solid, no rust, 2x6 transmission with really nice final speed due to it's cranks. I think it's an M size but the saddle is high so thats great but i'll have to replace the stem for a lower one. What else would you recommend me to make this bike ok for me? I'm 185cm tall

Just bought this nice Palomar, 52cm size, so, small to me, but i'll upgrade it to make it comfortable. Needs some tuning, oil, etc, but rims are perfect, and the rest of the bike is original excepting the saddle

Sold it 1 month ago with 1x6 transmission, i kept the 52T crank. Some days ago i bought an identical one, 98 slate black Palomar, 18 inch size (too small for me), i tuned it yesterday and it runs nice, everything original, even pedal. SR SUNTOUR XR11 cranks and Shimano SIS at back. The bigger crank is dope, 50T aprox. Needs new tyres and a good clean because water was not enough to remove impregnated mud. Has a lot of scratches but it is nice. Here is a photo.

Wow, somehow I never saw this thread before. Here's mine. It's a 2000 season team bike allegedly. Guy I bought it from picked it up in Belgium while vacationing. Story was this was spec'd as a roof-top spare for the two tall domestiques they had that year. Pretty sure it's legit, the seat tube is 56cm CtC and the TT 59 and I know they didn't build replicas with that geometry. Built it up with Campy Daytona 10s because I couldn't afford 10s Record at the time.

One of the things I like here is that in this size it has pretty much the classic Hellenic stays where the seat stays are parallel to the down tube. Nice light bike about 18 lbs as shown, super stable plenty stiff - with the Zonda wheels, maybe a little too much road feel. Rides sweeter with classic 32 spoke wheels.

I've always had a soft spot for GT Bikes as I had a few of them set up for Racing and Freestyle as a kid..
I wish I would not have sold them and still had them today, although I could not ride them at my (6'4" 250ish lbs) size...

One of these days, I'll build one on 24s or 26s.

Find a 22" sized CR-MO 1998 Palomar, those things are undestroyable and will handle you. I have one, running nice and stiff as all of them, it's the third Palomar 98 i have, i rode them all as hard as i was able to and no one broke excepting the first one because of the stem, headset and fork were not original and the adaptation by the previous owner was poor. Try one with 26 rims and beat it up mate.

That is for sure aluminum. I love the grungy look of it. Looks like a real work horse. Someone also polished it up quite a lot from the looks of the welds. I can only wonder how much the polished the tubes...

There's definitely a timeless quality to these bikes. Every time I get mine out of the basement I fall right back in love. The only things I can't get around is the rim brakes. I might get disc tabs put on some day but that would be a pricey job as the frame would again need to be heat treated.

Yep u are right, seems like aluminum because of the welds. Do u know the model and year? It's pretty much my size (54cm sized frame) so i'm looking forward to swap trans between this and, my Palomar cause i'm planning to sell it because it's small for me.
