Just got this. Not C&V in the truest sense but certainly is at heart. Paid $275. Have no interest in flipping it so that's not important. Sitting as a consignment sale in my LBS for a few months and I ignored it as best I could but finally took it for a ride. Mistake. :) Threw out a lowball offer figuring the seller wouldn't take it. He did.

DuraAce 7 speed with a mix of modern CF parts as well. Rides very nice.

Davidson still building and this appears to be a "Signature Steel." No ID on the tubing. The seller told me he had it made in the early 90s.

Lovely. The stem looks a bit long but you can easily swap that out with the money you've already saved.

Glad to see Bill's bikes getting around the country, Seattle to SE FL is about as far as possible in the lower 48.
I don't know the tubeset but Davidson never built a lower-end bike.

Nice condition. Either it hasn't been ridden much or the owner(s) were very careful with it.

Do you know the age of the frame? I'm wondering if the 7 speed group pre-dates the frame.

Seller told me early 90s. I don't know why a custom build has such a long stem. It's a nice Salsa one at least. Interesting mix of parts and many of them pretty modern. Modolo CF bars, Easton CF post and the Selle Italia saddle is the CF rail model.

I'm not up to date on Shimano history so I don't know if the drivetrain is older than the frame. The 7 speed with down tube shifters could well be though.

Wow, what a steal! I can understand that you had to buy after you rode :)

If your wife needed any convincing your money was well-spent, you'd have only needed to show her this thread. That frame probably cost at least 800 bucks to build.

Geez, I paid much more than that for mine and don't regret it. My frame looks much the same and I was told it's a '92. I believe it's Tange Prestige based on what I've read online and in the '92 catalog. Mine came to me with DA 8 spd STI.

From what little I know of DA (I'm a Campy guy :) ) I'd expect 8 speed as well. The biggest cog is big, I mean 30T or so big. Maybe that's a factor? Seller told me it was for climbing in California where he moved to FL from. I don't know. Don't know why a frame he assumedly had built for himself has such a long stem and seat setback either. Trying to accommodate changes in riding style over time? He was an older guy.

Doesn't matter a whole lot in the long run, really.

I had a lugged steel frame built that has a slightly shorter TT than I normally ride. It currently sports a long stem and setback seatpost, but that could change if my body changes over time.

Screaming deal on great bike. Wife gives you too much guff on that one, part it out 3-4 times what you paid.

Depending on what you're going to keep, you could probably make a fair bit of what you paid back in just selling the parts.
