N+1....again

Darn it! I was really hoping I would be good for awhile after I scored the Miyata a few weeks back and started making some plans for another bike I have sitting around with no purpose at the moment. Meeting the seller this evening and will definitely be bringing it home with me. This one is gonna be big. I miss having a nice Schwinn...

Kobe 01-26-16 10:27 AM

The Miyata did not even make your "my Bikes" list yet. You may need an intervention.

stardognine 01-26-16 10:40 AM

So this is a pre-posessional jitters thread? Cool. I'm waiting on Fedex to enter my tracking # into their system, which the seller emailed me yesterday. :)

I very well might! I haven't updated that list in awhile.

Yes it is. Can you see me shivering, with antici...

Good work! I'm N MINUS 1 as of yesterday. Sad day, but I'm going over to look at a bunch of 600AX parts today, so it'll make me feel better :)

I see a "Hoarders" episode in your future.

You guys are weird...

bmthom.gis 01-26-16 11:05 AM

When I first saw it, I figured I would let someone else swoop in. Well, it sat for 3 days and I decided to see if the seller still had it.
Nice Older Schwinn 12spd

After talking with the seller, it is fully outfitted with DA 7400. Once I tear it down, clean it, build it back up and put a new crank on, I'll take it for a spin and decide if it will move on or thin the herd through a different bike. I almost wish it wasn't my size

You are guilty by association :thumb:

Yikes! Don't tempt fate like that. You should only post a link AFTER you get it, so some unscrupulous person doesn't "outbid" you. Uncool, but happens often. Good luck. :)

I know. With no one else hanging out here from my city that I know of, I feel reasonably safe. If someone does manage to swipe it, then that's karma. I am emboldened with plans to meet the seller at his earliest chance.

Nice pick up! I'm a sucker for 80's Schwinns too.

I was N-4 for the year (well kind of I traded 1 bike, 2 bikes were stripped and had their frames put away for the future and 1 bike relocated to another house but still for my use). I really took my New years resolution to heart :roflmao2:So the year started off right but I just picked up another (non C&V) so I'm back to 5 in my apartment.

mparker326 01-26-16 03:14 PM

I don't even ask questions when I see a bike like that for $75.

I do...to my wife, so I can gauge if it will cost me anything later :roflmao2:She's pretty good about it though, and getting more open minded. My questions will be, once I get it, what do I do with it: Get another 7400 crank and build it up as is? Strip all of the Dura Ace off and do a retro mod? Strip it and sell the parts and then the fork/frame? Ride the hell out of it? Sell it as a complete bike? I'll probably put a spare crankset on and see how I like the feel of it I suppose.
Or create a thread like noglider did for his International and see where it takes me

bmthom.gis 01-26-16 05:22 PM

I have it! Pics t come

Congrats. That was a fantastic deal (I'm a bit jelly).

mparker326 01-26-16 07:02 PM

Good pick up. I would put a spare right crank on it and reuse the original rings. I would fully tune it up and ride. If you don't like it sell it. You could easily double your money.

Steve Whitlatch 01-26-16 07:27 PM

Post a picture already. The link is showing that it was taken down by the seller and not one mention of what the bike is in this entire thread?:crash:

Cool, congrats! :) I thought about outbidding you, but you woulda knowed it were me. (not really). ;)

Okay, here are some pictures, at long last!

Not sure what happened to the colors here

Hard to see maybe, but gold rims! Wheels aren't DA. Rear hub is Suntour LePree, have to wipe off the front to tell what it is. Rims are Araya

Corncob freewheel. Good for hills, right?

Kobe 01-27-16 07:45 AM

That is going to clean up nicely.

What was the story behind the crank arm breaking? I have never seen one break like that.

bmthom.gis 01-27-16 08:06 AM

No clue. The seller said it is a light crank and took too much force. Who knows, really. Has anyone else had a Mistral crank that broke on them?

bmthom.gis 01-27-16 09:18 AM

So, what should I be looking at for a crankset replacement? My obvious choice is DA 7400, but not much up on th Bay right now that isn't pretty gnarly looking or extremely expensive.
