My new (old) Bike ... Need advice

Hi Guys .... I bought a bike today and cannot find much info about it on the internet .... It seems like a very sturdy bike... it has really good brakes, 5 speed Sun Race with 2 cogs on the crank, stainless steel fenders, stainless steel wheels. The Carradine panier bags did not come with the bike (I had them laying around at home)

I'm not sure if this is aluminium or steel, but it does not have lugs. Paintwork looks good quality

The make is Santana and the model is Mont Blanc. The only Santana bikes that I can find are are company called Santana that makes tandems. Is this worthwhile keeping or best to sell it on?

herewith some photos:

I can't offer anything on the brand. It says Santana, England on the head badge. It's probably a store brand, built under contract in Japan.

I'm guess that it's from the mid-80s, based on the tires and bull-moose handlebars.
I also think it was a low-end bike, based on the cheap Sunrace components, steel rims, stamped dropouts, and messy welding on the frame.

It could be a perfectly functional commuter or touring bike, if updated with new tires and components. But I doubt that it would ever be worth much money.

Those are NOT stainless steel wheels. Stainless would not rust. Ditto the fenders. Those are chrome steel wheels. Store brand bike, entry level, with bottom end parts. Could make a reasonable commuter/college bike. But much nicer vintage rigid frame MTBs are out there, with better frames, wheels, and parts, at reasonable cost.

TiG welded, high ten steel frame.

The best deal on bikes out there IMHO are on higher end, rigid frame MTBs. Spend a little more up front, and you can get a bike that originally retailed for $900+/- for $50 more than a really basic one. Aim high on the vintage MTBs. There are brands and models that bring big money, but those are the exceptions. Look for aluminum three piece crankset (triple) with frame mounted rear derailleur, alloy rims, cromoly butted frame, forged drop outs.

Those saddle bags are really nice!

with the frame clearance and the cantilever brakes it could be a candidate for a CX bike build on the cheap, strip it to a SS and ride it in the mud!

And the rack. That sort of looks like an Eclipse rack.

Edit- never mind- it doesn't.

Just the bags.

Looks like an old Ross mountain bike take off from the 80's. Many of those were high qualify, unfortunately this is not. As mentioned probably a low end store bought.
