Stollenwerk

I cannot seem to find much information on this make, other than it appears to be the German equivalent of Schwinn. Does anyone here know anything about them?

I picked this one up late last year to use as a donor bike for the Criterium that I got from another member a few months prior. Now that I am getting ready to strip the group off the frame, I am having a bit of guilt. It is just a bit too small at 57 c-t. If it were a bit taller, I'd gladly ride it as is, after sorting out the seized RD.

I have no idea what this is but that is a cool derailleur.

That look cool with cool uber cool !

Dude, box the frame and send it to me.

lol, yeah I was thinking the same thing but you said it first so you get dibs. I think there may be a (limited) market for that bike.

Right, did a quick look and came up with a few pics but not a whole lot of narrative. Interesting looking. What decals are on it?

Did you get a story when you bought it ?

3speedslow 02-11-16 06:25 PM

Company came out of Aachen Germany and has been around at least from the late 40's.

BF has nothing, stumps the site when you punch in the name.

The guy I bought it from (CR list) said he bought it from the original owner. The original owner got it when he was in the service. I think I was told that this was in germany. The oo is the one who painted it, hence the condition.

Only the headset identifies the bike as a stollenwerk.

I had a German bike, Bauer, there are some nice bikes from over there. I think the bike you are displaying looks sharp.

99% of German bikes I think made it here to the U.S. that way. God bless our soldiers!

If I had my eyes open a little more I might have noticed this brand, maybe.

I did notice the headset. Does peg it as a stollenwerk.

So what are your plans for the frame?:innocent:

rando_couche 02-11-16 08:17 PM

That is a nice looking frame! The Nervex lugs and crown point to a pretty high-end bike.

Wow!

3rd dibs? ;) The queues start early here!

Really neat survivor. I vote for keeping it intact. I'd love to see a parts list breakdown as best you can tell from the brandings. Any marks on the bars? Interesting shallow and long shape with a nice curve.

beech333 02-12-16 08:14 AM

The handlebar said M kint on the left and s maes on the right. I don't recall seeing one before and assume the bar is german.

beech333 02-12-16 08:17 AM

The brakes were weinmann 730. Crank arms are gnutti with huret rings. FD is simplex. Rd and shifter is huret. Hubs are gnutti, I think. Stem is titan. Unknown seatpost with ecco 105 saddle.

I have decided to strip the components and donate them to 2 other projects. This will receive the parts off the other bikes, but will be a period correct frankenbike.

bikemig 02-12-16 08:22 AM

Looks like this may have come from a bike shop in Cologne, Stollenwerk Fahrrad - Händler tune.de

I'll bet it will be a great frankenbike; it appears to be a quality frame. I have a pretty neat old bike from Argentina that I haven't figured out what to do with and part of me wants to turn it into a frankenbike as well.

Good decision! Let us have a ride report when out on the road this spring.
