Well, it's pretty much all finished up. wheels, bottom bracket and headset repacked... (new bearings for the wheels) - new tires, new cables and a PC-850 for the time being. (LBS incorrectly advised me that a 8spd sram power link would reconnect the original uniglide chain, however the link was too narrow to work and I had removed a link to install it, so I guess I'd need two new master pins to reassemble it. I had to remove the rear reflector bracket b/c there wasn't enough clearance for the 25 sized tire. I also removed the chainstay protector that was peeling off. I tried to trim what was coming loose and it looked worse so I pulled it off. I'll order a replacement and then have the Mrs. cut out a new logo in silver to match what was printed on the original. I might throw it on the rollers yet tonight.

I'll have to do proper photos later on... but here's two for now. Nevermind the smudges on the chainstay.

+1 to keeping it as it came from the factory, regardless of the catalog spec.

I think having been ridden what I'd guess to be less than 100 miles and stored out of the weather for almost all its life has a lot to do with it.

I believe the "Lawyer Lips" refers to the raised portion of the DO that forces you to unscrew the quick release (QR) to be able to remove the wheel. Totally mitigates the concept of quick release! This raised portion of the DO is sometimes filed off to provide a flat surface from the outer edge of the DO to the mounting surface of the QR. This is entirely different from the approach Schwinn used as in this bike.

If you don't like the result of the clips, you can remove them from the axle and you have the equivalent of the filed "Lawyer Lips."

Just trying to differentiate, for clarity of understanding, there were at least two common approaches to meeting the requirements.

Wow, that came out great OP. As someone else said, basically a new bike and well worth the money spent. Really gorgeous one too, vintage but not too old. I'd definitely put some miles on it if it was mine.

Came out great! I was looking at the before pic of the cogs and thinking "been ridden more than he suspects," but then I saw the after. Wow. Old is new again!
