Leaving a Silca pump behind

...or how I unceremoniously abandoned my new-to-me vintage pump because I was so excited about my DeRosa. I brought both out to the truck, set the pump down by the passenger door, loaded the Derosa on the rack, stood back and admired it...then climbed into the driver's seat and drove off :(

Went back this am--of course, my pump is gone. Sucks.

Man, you would not believe my luck ! I found a Silca pump in the middle...

Bikerider007 02-27-16 06:16 PM

At least you didn't forget the DeRosa and take the pump home.

Yea that does suck.

3speedslow , LOL! Bikerider007 , thanks for setting my perspective right... C'est la vie! :)

Don't feel bad. I just did the same thing with a set of speedplay pedals. I got lucky though and the seller called me and I was able to go get them.

fender1 , I'm praying that one of my neighbors at the office found it and put it away...but that's just wishful thinking. Oh well, back to hunting one down that doesn't cost $100...

I have an old, white Silca you can have for shipping, if you want it. Let me know. It is in ok shape.

I have done this with more Zefal Hpx pumps than I care to admit. Have to remove pump to put on rack...set pump on vehicle rear mount tire...mount bike on rack. Admire bike. Drive away. Yeah, I feel you.

Chombi 02-28-16 12:57 PM

I feel for you..... I left my trusty old Zefal HpX pump in the trunk of the car I traded in 10 years ago. That pump served me well since I bought it in the 80's.
So excited to get the new car home and get rid of the truly evil one it replaced (1997 B4 VW Passat GLX VR6) that I forgot I had it back there hiding in the dark recesses of the trunk, with it's satin black finish....
I'm still kicking myself for losing that one, even after a decade already:(......
I figure it was the Passat last kick to my groin on it's way to the junkyard after only 70K miles....

I left a Silca frame pump in a farmer's garbage bin after the pump disintegrated whilst I was topping up a tire. I guess the plastic had crystalized because that pump broke into three sections and other smaler pieces. I'm hoping to get another one fom a hole in the wall shop that has a lot of old stuff. At least I krpt my steel Campagnolo presta head from that pump.

Cheers

If it had a Campagnolo head on it, now that would be a cryin' shame.

Yeah, because unlike this guy's and mine, your Silca left you behind before it could betray you. Mine cracked in a half-dozen places and had to have the barrel taped to remain useful until it finally gave out. Your Silca will always remain young and beautiful.

Well, in an interesting turn of events, I talked to a suspect, who in turn pointed towards a metal recycler, with whom I had a bit of a conversation with. In the end, I got most of my pump back.... http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...pst5fzyg24.jpg

I use a Zefal Z-Hose with my HpX pump and accidentally left it on the side of the road after fixing a flat during a 25 mile route I commonly do. About a month and 20 or so rides later, I'm rolling down the road and there it was!

My daily driver is a 1997 GTI VR6. Other than, hmmm, being ready for its fourth coilpack, it's been pretty problem free. The funniest was the afternoon I stopped for a school bus. I stalled it when I started to drive away. Stalled it a second time... What the heck? Finally figured out I was down to only 3rd and 4th. No 1st, 2nd, 5th, or reverse. I managed to get to the garage we use, negotiating the traffic light at the top of a hill just fine. Dropped the car off with visions of $thousands, and got a ride home from a friend. Hadn't been home long when John called, "Your car is ready..." "How can that be?" I asked. "Loose nut," john responded. (Note he didn't exactly say where it was...) At that point the car was 16 years old, one would have thought the loose nut would have come into play long before that.
