i was wondering if any of you classic/vintage frequenters know anything about columbus riverniciatio tubing.

i recently picked up a marinoni track frame that is probably early 80s and is labeled riverniciato. anyone know anything?

Too late, huh?

Hello, I don't know if you will read this, but I found that "riverniciato" means "repainted".

It was the replacement Columbus sticker if you refinished the frame professionally, I believe (before the availability of stickers on ebay).

yep. it just means "re-painted" and doesn't tell you what the original tubing was, but a safe bet that the majority of frames that got that decal were Columbus SL or (if a larger than 59cm) maybe Columbus SP.
Whoa, this was a question from 2005!

Maybe at the Columbus know the answer even now ...

I would have seen the point that non-riverniciato (original) stickers were only included with the tubeset in its box. And only riverniciato stickers could be bought commercially afterwards. But what about frames with only the sticker damaged, but the painting is the original? ...

However, if it was possible to obtain non-riverniciato (original) stickers later, riverniciato doesn't make much sense.

Yeah, probably, given that it's a 14 year old thread and the OP hasn't posted in 12 years.

I would have waited till 4/1 to revive this thread.
Strategic coatings can impart additional structural integrity, I read it somewhere.
