Gitane vintage track bike

Start bring home catalogs of the latest CF bikes, make sure the prices are listed. Then you can safely bring home a $500 bike. It all 'bout perspective

carbomb 03-02-16 01:47 PM

I'd own one =) A vintage, European track bike is on my list right after I thin the heard to acceptable levels... which is going to take a while.

There's always this 1954 Holdworth Zephyr on eBay:

Makes me want to get into my team race shorts, make a jamming tool, and ride down the banking.

Gitane made a "b" line track bike, which I think that one is. Someone upgraded it with Campy bits. Atala made one too. You would think some of those would pop up on CL and ebay.

Wow, that punches the vintage track bike on the list, but...

I bought new and slowly letting it become C&V

Here is another Gitane apparently owned by C&Vs' own solar , I wonder what the geometry difference is on these two or if there is any ? That red Paramount is awesome , and I wonder if anyone would pay 9K for that thing . IthaDan thanks for the screen shot .
PS I think it's understood here that this is not my bike , I only posted it because I thought it's a good deal and someone might not normally see the add . Funny thing the person who owns it lives about a block from me .

cb400bill 03-02-16 06:23 PM

I got this one a few years back. The problem is that the nearest velodrome is 150 miles away.

I just renewed my USAC license this year for the first time in a while --- i still align myself with the trackies

Love the old track bikes --- They are works of art that still don't give up much to the "new, trick stuff" out on the track.

Totally with you there. I know I've been frustrated by threads about craigslist links that drum up some good conversation and insight, but the ad is long gone. I make a point when I can, in the name of the BF knowledge base, to screenshot as many ads as I can. Who knows when the thread will turn up in someone's Google search.

Mine's a 531 tubed Waterford -- lugs, threaded steerer -- it looks like a retro even though its somewhat from the modern era . I've got multiple sets of wheels for it , but the Corima's were the last shoes it was wearing when i put it up a few years back

This one definitively tickles the C&V boxes though for people who like late 80's/early 90's stuff -- 3Rensho track time trial bike. Fillet brazed Ishiwata tubing-- The last time it was used on a track was 2002, right around the corner from ya at the Balboa Park velodrome (well, not exactly around the corner , but down in San Diego ) --- i'd have to figure out a way to get those handlebars up a bit to take a spin on it now

Very cool bikes DMC , back in the late 70s' I was renting a house about a mile from the Balboa park/ Encino velodrome area . At that time I had a Gitane road bike, my buds and I would strip down our road bikes and hop the fence at the VD and ride . None of us had the money for a real VD bike , on race night we would get a bottle of wine and sit in the stands . Those were some good days .

In Australia back in the 70s' VD was an acronym for the unknown transmission of an intimate condition between consenting adults.:innocent:

Haha , you "caught" the funny .

I started my velodrome love affair with a 2003 Fuji Track Pro...it rides like a scalpel, but I felt like I really needed a vintage steel frame too.

This one popped up 3000 miles away and I pulled major strings to get it in hand...it makes me warm and fuzzy every time I see it in the garage, and it rides like a dream.

If you can swing it, do it.....nothing like flat out on the banking.
