The fork is pretty good, but that wangle in the downtube is most concerning.

CannedPakes 03-09-16 04:20 PM

What did you hit to do that much damage?

Yeah, that frame was toast. Into the dustbin a long time ago :(

Hey, a little dent to fix, turn the fork around and crash it backwards, you've got a rider, right?

This happened during a PCS (permanent change of station) move from the UK back in the mid-90s. The bike was built up when it happened. I suspect someone drove a forklift into the crate on accident.

:)

I was gonna turn the rear triangle/seat tube into a shop stool, but nah.

That's a heck of an angle on that seat. You're telling me that you don't slide down it as you type? Or is this just more aerodynamic, :p?

Feels better that way.

:innocent:

Actually, it's flatter than the picture looks. The saddle's turned backwards from normal orientation.

I did this due to a nasty bout of sciatica, lots of sitting, (actually bending of the leg lke you do while sitting is the root cause) makes it ache something bad. This allows me to straighten my leg. Oddly enough, cycling doesn't make it works (thank gawd!), probably because I'm always moving it, and it's straight at the bottom of the stroke-the nerve that causes the issue isn't pinched for long periods of time.

Naw it's not that bad, just ripped the lawyer tabs off. Got lucky compared to some of the other pics I've seen.

First pic after putting "broken carbon fiber fork" into Google:

I was not surprised to see there were many, many more.

Gonna go and have a look at bent forks now. Maybe I can find some fodder with which to pad my thread :)

Seriously, I can't recall ever bending a fork. However, I've broken seat tubes, stems, crankarms, pedal axles, bottom bracket spindles....

I see. Well, I kinda got the idea from a recent thread that talked about breaking stuff that you listed. I figured to line that up with our favorite "I-spy" Ebay/CL subject.

I guess it's not us that have the actual bent forks - we're just very, very good at spotting others' :)

Ouch, Patrick - I've heard the story, of course. But now this thread is not so worthless - 'cause we've now got pics :)

That last one... **shudders**

LOL and that was the good part! Finally having that bone mended after 8 weeks of hoping it would mend on its own! There was a nerve bundle in the middle of the break that prevented the break from mending. Taking showers, among other things like sleeping, was a real challenge!

Horribly grainy picture (it was taken with an ipod) of my Sekai after a left hook incident a couple years ago. Still going strong today with a replacement fork.

This one went right past the bent stage:

I don't have snaps to share but I did borrow a friends Park Tool fork straightener recently and worked on a bent fork from a Raleigh 3 speed. I'm not claiming that the fork is safe now but I learned a lot from the experience. Pretty well designed tool and it straightened that fork quite well. I can see how you can bend each blade back to normal without stressing the brazed fork crown joints.

Who knows if I'll ever try this on a rider though.
