Columbus added helical reinforcement to the butted section of the superlative SL and SP tubesets to create SLX and SPX tubing. Later, TSX tubesets were introduced. TSX is based on SLX, however the 5 helical reinforcements are extended continuously from end to end.

All are SLX. None remain in my possession. The Simoncini was the most agile, and precise, the Super Corsa was the most agressive, and the Corsa Extra and De Rosa were like riding the same well-mannered smoothie. The Paramount was nothing special, rode nice but I was always annoyed at the size, 54.5 vs. my normal 56cm. The D'Arienzo was smooth and much more behaved in a straight line. I've never ridden Kirk's Tommaso, but it sure looks smooth riding next to it.

1986/87 Merckx Corsa Extra is my only "X" bike since the DeRosa went back to from whence it came (fellow C&Ver Wildwood.) With the weather finally drying up around here, and those nice dependable Tufo S33 skins, it'll probably get the bulk of my miles the next few months. I can tell I'm getting into this bike because I'm starting to rotate all my saddles around on it; trying to find the one that's 'just right.'

In 1989-1990 Bianchi used the same frame as yours on 3-4 models: Giro, Super Leggera, Mondiale and so on.

That year the "Mondiale" model was sold as a complete bike or a bare frame without the model name on the top tube.
I bought a 1990 NOS "Mondiale" frame that had been sitting in a box at a LBS for over 20 years. For some reason I thought that SLX was lighter than SL tubing so it would be a smooth rider silly me!
I took it to a local frame builder and had him check the alignment. He told me it was going to be stiff riding, he was right!.
It has a mishmash of Campy components from the 70's to the 90's. The bike fits me perfectly and handles perfectly. It's one of my favorites, a great climber but I wouldn't want to ride it for more than 35 miles!

I also briefly had a 1989 Peugeot SLX - a UK model.
Currently I have a pair of Bilato built Lemond Team Z bikes. One is new, never been on the ground, the other has about 200 miles on it.

I told the owner the bike was going to a good home, so I felt bad about flipping the bike and got this replacement frame in the right size. I wonder if it is from 1990 or 91 since the graphics are different. Anyway, wonderful riding bike, but it's surprisingly heavy, 23 #. Also the Synchros shift perfectly!

Current look
The frame is made of Columbus Bianchi Formula Two (mystery blend). It weighs about 25 lbs.
I found the NOS 1989 or 1990 Mondiale frame with SLX tubing. The geometry of the Giro and the Mondiale are the same. I mistakenly thought that SLX was lighter thus smoother riding than SL tubing. At the time I wasn't aware of the stiffening reinforcements in the ends of the down tube and bottom of the seat tube.
It's about 23 lbs with a triple crankset and rides a lot smoother than the Giro. I mounted some 700 x 25c Paselas t smooth it out a little more.
