Which model Schwinn is this?

A LeTour maybe? It has double butted 4130 tubes; 27" wheels and a Suntour RT 1000 rear derailleur (not sure if original).

I bought it as a commuter, and was curious about the history, model, and year. I also was hoping to research a geometry chart.

Please post the frame serial number as well as the 4-digit number stamped in the headbadge.

Will do -

I wonder if it is one of these 1983 models, Super LeTour maybe?

I think you are on the right track...

It looks and seems like it is early 80s to me. From the pictures, it looks like a 10-speed so I would guess that it is pre-1983 since Schwinn moved to 12-speeds beginning in '83.

Look at the Schwinn headbadge at the front of the bike. There will be a 4 digit number stamped into it. This number corresponds to the day and year that it was built. So if it says 1742 then it was built on the 174th day of 1982. That should let us narrow it down significantly.

There is nothing stamped on the head-badge that I can see, just says "Schwinn Chicago".
The serial number on the BB is: SF409647
Thanks!

F4 is likely April, 1984 (frame manufacture date). I think it's a Warm Silver Le Tour with a 27" frame. That sure looks like a six cog freewheel to me.

As Metacortex and msnede1 say, there should be 4 very small font digits stamped into the headbadge. You have to look closely; it's easily missed.

I approve of the shorties.

if there is a code on the head badge, I can't find it. I put 700c wheels with 35c tires and the brake pads fit great with minimal adjustment.

That's not surprising; there's only a 4mm difference in reach between 27" (630mm BSD) and 700c (622mm BSD).

What does the 1st "S" in the serial number mean? Is it confirmed made in the USA?

Huge 27" frame size and ARX shifters, suggesr it is a Le Tour, not a Super LT

Metacortex is probably in a better position to answer that question, but the mysterious "S" serial number prefix apparently appears on some frames made in Chicago, Japan, and Greenville. I've found this on a couple of websites trying to explain Schwinn serial number systems, "LeTour (and Super LeTour) numbers (1978-80 and 1982 on) include the letter "S" with year of production (8 = 1978, 0 = 1980). Example: SC94653 = March, 1979."

What is clear from this late 1985 article in a Schwinn dealer newsletter is that the 1986 Le Tour was made in Greenville. Other sources have stated that the 1984 Le Tour was made in Greenville.

I can only confirm exactly what Scooper said above. The only thing I can add is that the badge stamp can be very hard to read, as seen on this 1984 badge stamped "0044":
