Looking for info about this saddle

I picked up this saddle and would like to learn a little more about it.
It's a rubber covered mattress saddle, very heavy with a very small seat post clamp.
Any idea what year/era this comes from and what type of bike?

I've done a net search but only found a couple of ebay images and no info.

Thanks.

Subscribed: I've got one of these, too. Came on a Schwinn Crosscut, but I think the saddle predated the bike by at least a decade.

It's an early 70's, maybe late 60's basis saddle that Schwinn put on their geared bikes.

Thanks for the reply 3speedslow. I held off a bit responding to see if anyone else may have had one. I still can't get over the small diameter seat post clamp. It measures 5/8ths of an inch.

Fwiw this one came on a Carlton Corsa and looked pretty similar, only it had a wasp nest underneath. I actually found it pretty comfortable, but it weighed a ton.

That saddle was made for Schwinn by Mesinger and I believe it was used from 1967 through mid-1973 on the Schwinn Varsity and Continental.

The seat post on those bikes was 13/16" diameter with a smaller diameter 5/8" top.

FYI, I saved this saddle from the 73 Continental so if anybody needs parts.

Thanks all. And yes it weighs a ton!
I think I am going to stick it on one of my bikes and see how it feels. I have another vinyl mattress saddle that I use but I can feel the springs through the material. I suspect this one is thick enough not to.

Plus, it's Shwinn approved so it has to be good.

For a hoot, I took the vinyl off the carriage and tried to fit on some of my other saddles. Very close and would prob'ly fit if I forced it. It would be a great cover for some of the SM on the Schwinns.:)
