I've had one of those Suntour Roller Cam tools for a long time and never knew what it was for! Mystery solved! Thanks @fender1 I guess I now need a bike with Roller Cams. Actually a buddy has a High Sierra with Roller Cams, so we can use it on his when we adjust them.

Love the paint the more I see it @jeremyb and especially the fork crown. I wish my '88 High Sierra had one of those beautiful forks.

Thanks for all the love guys. The color really is amazing, I'm considering painting all my bikes from now on this color. I might be a snob, but I really cant ride a uni crown fork, I think they're so ugly.

I took the bike for a spin around the block last night around 11pm and couldnt get the smile off my face. It felt like Christmas morning when I was 8.

Any recommendations for a vintagey set of MTB grips? I'm thinking these Ritchey Black Rubber ones: https://www.amazon.com/Ritchey-129159...=ritchey+grips

The Roller Cam Brake Third Hand Tool is something I was unaware of so thank you for that. Something tells me though, the shipping will cost more than the tool.
Maybe I'm missing something, but it sort of looks like you could just bend a piece of steel rod to make one.

Hmm, I think that bike (and its fork) just arrived in my office, courtesy of fender1!

It's going to my house in upstate NY where it will hopefully get some trail riding use this summer.

Ding Ding, you are correct sir. It's a sweet understated bike, unlike the grips. Lose em!

edit...if you want to draw attention to it, use streamers. That I can handle.

I've set up these brakes. I can't even figure out how this tool works.

Okay, got new Ritchey grips, they have that old school look I was going for. Also got a new set of pedals, just a bit of orange/copper to them. She's done for now. Time to ride. Total out of pocket cost $230. Some stuff came from the parts bin.

Man, I just love this bike!

Lines, colour, tyres, bars, brakes. Everything just works.

What hubs are those?

Thank you!

I'll have to check on the hubs, I just had those wheels laying around, they were kinda shiny, so there you go.

Great job, I like everything about the final product. Especially the color. The High Sierra is a great bike, I mostly use mine for getting around the neighborhood. And shuttling my dog around on a pizza rack/milk crate combo.

Check eBay first- I saw the tool on BikeStash, bought it, while in transit I saw them on ebay for $3 and free shipping. Oh well, I'm glad I supported BikeStash.

That turned out great!

As others have said, the paint is really nice. I'll be curious to hear how it holds up against the kind of crap I imagine this bike is going to get ridden through.

Good looking budget beast.

I tip my hat.

Cool project and will be loads of fun.

Lights and a bag will get you out and back.
