Hey, it's just a hand job.
I'm reminded over and over that my life is similar to the Woody Allen film Zelig: I'm barely off focus from a famous picture.
In this case I was Scot Nicol's neighbor when he boomeraranged back to his family in Walnut Creek for a short period of time. There was a "Save the Ibis" offroad bike ride, essentially a fund raiser to keep Scot in business. He once described what he thought would be the ultimate "paint" job: clear coat the frame, then get drunk on tequilla until you started hurling chunks, aforementioned chunks aimed directly at the frame, with a sober assistant ready to turn the frame for good uniformity. Let it dry, then clear coat over that.
True story, told to me at the Long Beach Bike Shoe in 1985, I believe. The same show that I saw Eric Heiden wearing Levi's, a white t-shirt, and flip flops, talking to some little guy with an 8x8 booth in the far edges of the show, pitching his invention.
