Tell me more about big, grippy platform pedals that are "Classically Styled"

I'm working on a bike that will be be my neighborhood get-around rig. I want large, grippy, platform pedals but I want them silver and with a classic look. Modern styling works as well so long that it does not detract from the bike.

So far, I really only have one solid option:

Velo Orange Grand Cru Sabot Pedals
The style is spot on. Not too flashy but not boring either. The removable pins are a nice bonus especially because I will not be riding clipless with this bike.

I had also considered Crank Brothers Stamp pedals and if they came in silver, they would be a strong contender but they don't so...

The one set I am not considering is the MKS King Grip/Lamba's. I understand that many own and love these pedals but their battle axe design doesn't cut it for me.

Please do provide thoughts on other pedals that match the original idea of flat, wide, grippy and silver.

If this topic has already been covered at some point in the past and my searching abilities haven't found the jackpot of a past discussion, please do point me in the right direction as I, like most, would rather not see another post on a thread that's been beaten to death.

I've thought about the same thing and I think the Velo Orange is the best looking choice.

Whatever you do, do not buy a pair of Gripkings. Everyone I know who has won't take them off until they're ready to transfer them to their next bike.

how about the MKS Urban Platform? Not grippy- but look awesome for clips or half clips.

I like the look of the VO pedals but every time I see the price, I just move on. My favorite pedals for around town riding are bmx style pedals; just find one on silver with traction pins. I agree with post no. 2 on the grip kings but the OP isn't interested in them.

If going with toe clips and straps, I agree with post no. 2; MKS makes great pedals.

Not as grippy, but more classic looking is the MKS Sylvan Touring.

Plenty wide and plenty grippy for me, as I usually ride in running shoes or hiking shoes with at least a little lugwork on the bottom.

I agree. I have the MKS and the vintage SP-11's I use both with 1/2 clips. This way I can always use the bike instead of a car. Here's the SR's.

I don't think there really is a C&V BMX-style pedal. That niche was filled by those steel pedals with the rubber blocks.

Here's the MKS with 1/2 clips. I see we are doing the upside down photo thing again. Sorry.

go on chainreactioncycles and look at MTB flat pedals, and looks at silver options. You can get the classic wellgo for $20 or hope for $175 and lots to pick from in between.

Note: at the time of this posting their website just went down for maintenance

I use cheap generic bmx style platforms and on a touring bike I wanted to save weight so I found wellgo mg-1 on ebay for less than half the price of those VO pedals and they are free shipping. Wellgo makes a bewildering amount of pedals, another one that isn't as sharp with pins is the wellgo B130.

before i knew much about the early '80s japanese pedals i now favor (mostly kkt top run), i bought some velo orange touring pedals. they were very comfortable with the soft soled running shoes i wear (onitsuka tiger mexico 66) and very lightweight.

in the end, they just don't look right to me.

+1 These are going on the Frankenbike.

I wanted pedals that were sturdy and suited a 1970s 10 speed bike.

I am having a hard time thinking of quill pedals with a different cage as BMX pedals... even though they were. Not even the big ugly XC II pedals. To me it implies the big hexagonal alloy platforms common now. When did those come about?

I spotted these Wellgos on a 90's Novara road bike a while back. I like them but no one seemed to recognize them.

But with no clip, they won't sit right and can be awkward to turn right side-up. OP said he wasn't going clipless, but not sure about clips and straps. I had the impression these would be retention-less pedals, in which case I would strongly advise getting something that's two-sided.

What I like about the group is that posting here is kinda like a slow cooker. You put all the ingredients in, you turn the heat on then come back hours and hours later and the dish is done! So, thank you all for posting.

I appreciate everyone who contributed but let me reiterate again, I am interested in vintage, or classically styled big, grippy, platform pedals. Not rat traps. Not toe straps. Not clip in's. Not Campagnolo. Not half clips, partial clips, fun urban style, touring pedals, etc. Big, grippy, platform pedals.

For those of you mentioning the BMX pedals, this is likely a strong way to go. Thanks to you, @cyclotoine for the links. The Wellgo V8's aren't bad at all but for $16 I have to wonder what kind of quality they are. I don't have problem spending money on solid pedals. This is my rig, not a resale or flip. I spend money on my rides. It's why I work (and don't own a car), so I can pay for my other modes of transportation.
Also, the Fire Eye PJ-Acr Flat Pedals aren't bad either. @kevins08, those Stolen Throttle pedals are within range too and qualify as big, grippy, platform pedals. Do you know what model they are?

EDIT: @clasher was right. Wellgo does make a bewildering array of pedals. There are 9 pages of platform pedals alone!

I have these on my old Raleigh with steel half-clips. Extremely suitable.

the Wellgo's are indistinguishable from Shimano MTB/BMX pedals from the eighties.

i have a set of these with clips. The smooth bottoms work great with any kind of shoes. The clips are never tightened. They're just there to keep my feet from sliding off.
